exercises in cutting boards
cutting boards keep me amused. by working with as many different types, grains, and colors of wood as i can easily get my hands on, each board is like a new canvas to create images and patterns. i enjoy trying new geometries, and are continually trying to improve the quality of my work. i sell some, and give many away to friends and family. i'd welcome any comments or pics of similar work. thanks.

Hi GB,
Wow! They are beautiful pieces of work - too good for chopping boards!
Is the purple wood purpleheart? And what is the yellow timber? What finish do you use to maintain the colours without darkening them too much. Any more pics would be very welcome. Wonderful work!

thanks for your nice comments... the purple is purpleheart, the yellow is yellowheart, the orange is paduak. i usually keep the main woods of the board to either ash, red oak, or in these cases figured cherry. i attached a few more pics of some recent ones, they often are created as a way to use up scraps. does the mosaic remind you of a granite tile backsplash?...i realized if they can create a product out of tiny scraps, so can i! i hear others use a variety of finishes....i just rub them up a few times with EV olive oil. it darkens the wood a bit, yes, but it also deepens the grain contrast on the oaks and ash ones nicely. ( Photoshop helps a bit too..;D!)

thanks again for the comments...
