Thumbs up Was A Fence - Is A Cot

Thanks everyone for all the help with the stupid cot questions - here are a few pics of it so far - we are very happy seeing as it was the old fence rails and now is the cot - the up and down side was a drama - and my routing was ordinary but it works - I am just going to get some brass panic bolts to secure it in the up or down position - all the mechanical pieces I found for the drop side were cheesy and the furniture companies wouldn't sell me their fittings for "safety reasons". Anyone got a clue what the timber would be - it is rather light for hardwood and reddish?

Corcorbear Not sure what sort of timber it is but the cot is looking good. As so many have mentioned in previous posts be careful what finish you use as toddlers love to chew the tops of the rails. I ended up cutting some plastic conduit length wise and slipping it onto the tops of the rails to stop this happening when my kids were toddlers.

Shellac is also used as a food additive so it must be a safe finish
