Floor lamp
G'day,
Here are some pictures of a floor lamp I made a little while ago.
Its for a tall space, hence the idea to make something bespoke as nothing I could find was as tall as wanted.
Its 3 layers of bent lamination tassie oak, book matched with an inlay of a darker timber for a feature.
The light itself is 2 strips of leds set between the layers.

very cool. Can you shed anymore light on how the LED's are set in, are they behind a thin layer?
cheers

Before the glue up I routed trenches in the rear side of the first layer, wide enough to take the led strips and leaving about 3mm of thickness. I cut 2 slots and the thickness of my saw blade was just right for the little led squares (diodes?) to sit in the slots.
Then they are locked in by the next lamination layer.
Not sure how well I have explained that, hopefully it makes sense.

Cheers.
The base is actually filled with concrete. In hindsight it probably wasnt necessary as its quite well balanced.

You can get them on ebay. Probably other places too.
You can get different colours, remote control etc <$20.

Great design, I love it.
The time we enjoy wasting is not wasted time.

Love the design. Did you bend the laminations after you laid the LED's in the trench?
Since light travels faster than sound,
People appear bright until you hear them speak.

Thanks. Yes that's right. The LEDs and the wire are set in the first layer, then the 3 layers were glued and clamped to the form.
A downside is that the LEDs are completely unserviceable, so hopefully they last a long time.
