    Default My first Dovetails.

I have been interested in hand cut Dovetails for a while now,
but never got round to trying them out myself,
but recently i got my hands on a good book that tells you everything you need to know, i did these using a pax gents saw and a coping saw

please tell me anything i could do better and how, it would be most appreciated.

You're a better dovetailer than photographer

That's a top effort for you first one and now the thing to do is exploit the total freedom you have and explore variable spacing and tail/pin sizes.

    Cheers

    Not a bad start Jim.
Did you cut the pins or tails first?
As mic-d said, not you can play around with the spacing.

I guess the more practice u have the better... made a coffee table last yr and it has 100+ dovetails Also I have found out that the harder the timber the harder it is to fit the joints, softer wood like pine is great to start with. I use to (in high school) go to the school's woodwork room and using their scrap wood to make small dovetail boxes using tenon saw and dull chisel...lol
btw GREAT first dovetail!!!...mine first 1 was....well...I kinda gave up on it, there were like at least 2mm between the pin and tail.

    thanks you all

100+ dovetails wow that would of been quite frustrating

same with me i always go down to the wood work room and take anything out of the scraps bin that looks half decent for anything.
