Hall Table Queensland Maple and Forest Oak
This hall table is 1400 long and 400 wide.
The main time is highly figured Queensland Maple. It takes to Kunos oil well and really pops the colour and figure.
I added the darker trim of Forest Oak to break up the Qld Maple. I tried to pick the boards with the best figure facing into the room.
The curves are repeated in several parts of the table. I added a third leg to help give the impression of curve on the ends.
I wanted the long table to look light so went with a floating top and the hanging drawers.Scally

It looks awesome. Well done. Does it have two drawers as seen in 3rd pic?

Thanks Kuffy
Yes it has two drawers.
The plan is to place the table below a wall mounted TV. It could sit on the table top but it would be a shame to cover that great figure.
The drawers will have manuals, remotes and other small bits and pieces.
On the top shelf will be the Foxtel or similar box.
The bottom shelf will have a stereo and centre speaker.Scally

Nice work, and some very nice material used to make it.
Is it an original design?
Well done!

Hall Table Timbers and Design
The timber is very nice.
I bought a couple of lots of Queensland Maple from Cedarworks at the Boutique Timbers auction in September. The other option was North Queensland Silky Oak which was very attractive but it wasn't in the size I needed for the legs.
Then got the Forest Oak from Mal and Greg, Boutique Timbers. I was looking for a timber to go with the Maple so also bought some Gidgee, Buloke, Qld Walnut and Jarrah. But the Forest Oak was the most interesting timber.
The design is a combination of a few Hall Tables that I have seen and adjustments to fit the purpose.
The through dovetails on the drawers I thought added some interest. And because I just bought a Gifkin Dovetail Jig from the sale of Neil Scobies' tools.
Most of the work is straight forward except the curve of the rails and fitting the third leg. That was a bit fiddly.Scally

Hall Table delivered
I managed to get the new TV table delivered before the end of the year.
It replaces the corner TV cabinet that many of us had for big TVs.
Still a bit more sorting of wires to do by the owner then getting the big corner unit out on the street.
She had a coffee table full of remote controls so I might need to add a couple more drawers.
The tangle of cables is a challenge to conceal. Maybe an enlarged skirting board with space behind for most of them?
Needless to say, the new TV table is changing the look of the lounge room.Scally

I cut a lot of Forest Oak for firewood and was thinking of trying some on my Lucas Mill. Looking for recommendations on cutting sizes? What are the best sizes to cut? Thanks

Hi Scally,
Beautiful .. showing your craftmanship.
What a fantastic design .. so organic with the curves, texture and colour.
As said by a previous poster ... an heirloom piece indeed
Thanks for the WIP pics ... it's always nice to see the process steps and thought in construction
Regards
Rob

Scally,
Just back from a trip to find you've managed to find some timer time again.
That is great work; the Qld maple sheen and fiddleback shows why this is one of the best timbers in Australia.
Forest Oak: quarter sawn or back sawn? both have distinct display qualities and it is an under appreciated timber in my opinion.
Great work as always, look forward to catching up at the Sydney wood show
Greg
