Hall table and serving platter - but what timber is it?
Hi everyone
Well, almost finished the hall table that we have been working on. It was our first "dominoed" piece. Trouble is, we're not entirely sure what the timber is. We got it last year from Stan at Mullumbimby. Guesses from us are brushbox or yellow stringybark (I admit, they are guesses). If you could help out with the timber identification -that'd be great.
The serving platter is red gum - an old favourite.
The finish is Danish oil - it's yet to be waxed.
Cheers
Dan and Tom
(PS Tom was hogging the Domino, I get to have a "proper" go this weekend).

Here's Tom - up the right way this time!
Lignum, the Domi is fantastic. First go Tom was using it with his elbows out and I wondered why. Then I realised it was so I couldn't get close beside him and take over. He had his "protective wings" out!
Cheers

Here's a better one of the timber close up. I'm having trouble resizing the images.

Mate, looks like you spent too much on the festool and now can't afford the lights. Good job from what I can see. You happy with the domino?

Love the serving tray, good choice of handles and that grain is fantastic. How big is it and is it too heavy?

Cheers thanks. The tray is about 60cms long and not too heavy. It's not really for walking around the place and serving like that, more so a "plop on the table" type platter and people can cut up cheese and take a cracker from there type platter.

I took the redgum platter home, and played around with the finish, to bring out the grain. Dunno if you missed it or not.
