    Default Bubinga gunstock

Interesting commission. The client supplied the bubinga to make a stock for a .308 target rifle. The stock is hand shaped, sanded to 800 grit and finished with 6 coats of gloss wipe-on poly. I'll give it a few more days to harden, then polish it with car polish.

    Wow, very nice Alex.
As soon as that turns up at the gun club you can expect a few more commissions I reckon.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

    Sensational!

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

    G'day Alex,

Having done target riffle shooting, how did you work out the balance of the stock?
I make things, I just take a long time.

I worked on one that the client had. When I got close to the shape he took it, bedded the barrel and test fired it. I could then make minor adjustments to the shape. There was the option of boring out the butt if it was too heavy, but that wasn't necessary.

Client picked it up this morning, very happy, so I gave him a couple of cards to give to anyone at the shooting club that's interested.
Also had some small metal badges made up, so inlaid one.

There is a bloke in Tarzali just up the road for me who makes rifle butts.

He is actually a Gunsmith but most of his work is now just making the butts for target shooters & he sends them all around the world.
    Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Thanks Major. It took 45 hours, including drawing and some templates that I can use again (if I can find them when I need them.)
