    Default Jarrah Display Cabinet

    This is a tall Display Cabinet made from Jarrah. The back panel is two thin panels of 5mm each glued down the middle to allow for different shinkage rates. The external panel is Jarrah and the internal panel is Huon Pine to lighten the inside of the cabinet.
    I have used single lap dovetails on the carcass and bridle joints on the doors so that the joinery is a feauture of the piece.
    I have made the cabinet hardware from African Blackwood - ie: the door catches, stops and lifters.
    The door and drawer handles are Brazilian Purpleheart - sensational wood and goes well with Jarrah

    It looks great

    ... but the photography makes it look like it came out of a dolls house (i.e. that it's miniature) ... very odd indeed.

    There is a lot of woodwork in that small cabinet.

    You are a real craftsman with a good eye for detail. I wonder how long it took you and how much was machined and how much by hand.
    It looks a little tall for its size though, is it stable enough when you pull out the drawer?

    sensational piece - I really like it when people are brave enough to experiment with mixing species for creating highlights, it's really paid off in this case.

    I have machined all of the timber but then hand planed every piece to ensure they are bump free and wind free. The handles have just been shaped than sanded.
    The feet are asian inspired. I have a tiger oak coffee table on my website with similar feet. I like the look of these feet.
    All of the joinery is hand cut which allows for variances in design and ensures accuracy.
    For anyone that is interested I wrote a series of articles on the making of this piece. They are avaiable on my website for free. You will need to become a member to have access to them but that is easy. The articles are in pdf format which I was told was more universal that word format. The problem I have found with pdf is that you lose the clarity in the photos. Does anybody know how to rectify this issue?

    The stand is 935mm high and the cabinet is 615mm high, 460mm wide and 285 deep.
