Had some Jarrah offed to me.
Hi,
I have had some Jarrah offed to me, not sure exactly how much, but a substantial amount I think.
The bloke said he would like a Jarrah Ash Tray.
Ok, so a timber ash tray would not necessarily be my first choice, but what would I know, I don't even smoke.
So after thinking about it for a while, I made a matching pair.
I don't think it is my finest work... (certainly hope not anyway), but, It's what the bloke wanted & it was pretty easy.

They look good enough to do the job. Any burns will just add character over time.
My mum was raised by a pair of chain-smokers. My GF made many wooden ash trays, wooden baccy holders for his rollies, more decorative cigarette boxes and lighter holders for my GM's Craven-A habit when she went to Hoy (bingo with cards from memory). He made a few I believe, so either that meant they worked really well or they constantly needed replacing. Now that I think about things, it was probably because each room had 3 or 4.

As I said, it prolly wouldn't be my first choice, but it would have to be a pretty lucky ciggy to catch jarrah on fire I think.

I've turned a few mossie coil holders (modification of pot pourri bowls) from hardwoods as family gifts. In the tests I tried (thought I should check), the coil dies off quickly enough when in constant contact with the wooden base.
They are meant to always have the little tin coil stand inside but a few more paranoid recipients tell me they have put things like round trivet tiles inside. Actually I tried to reshape some excess tiles I had lying around but it was all too hard so I skipped that stage.
Don't know what cigs would do. Non-smoker too. But I agree the Jarrah should be right.

Colour wise it seems to be very light to be Jarrah.

You could be right Rod, or it could be that I am a lousy photographer.., But I'm happy to go with your explanation.
