I was going to do a WIP on this one but the camera went to Adelaide on holidays with my son , and only returned yesterday.
made entirely from Pinus warpus ( I know, but Pine siuts this one!) it has worked out ok so far.
There is a top to go on yet and I will post more pics as I proceed.

The top is 19mm thick then there is a plate rack/bookcase type of thing to go on as well. Cheers StevenThe hurrier I go, the behinder I get.

G'day all, well its all starting to come together now. The top is nearly complete, just a bit of moulding around the top to make it look a bit
"Beefyer", a bit of sanding,(OK a LOT of sanding) connect the top to the base, some stain , some clear, bang on some knobs and its done. This has been a Father/daughter "Bonding" exercise, and if you have never experienced this, let me explain,,,,,,, She (Daughter) supplies the idea , and "Dufus" (Me) supplies the timber, nails, glue, screws, stain, and clear. This is fair because she will give me a hug at the end of it all.
Anyway I will post a pic when the finish is on. Cheers Steven.Attachment 58706The hurrier I go, the behinder I get.

Dont mess up a great job like that with a crappy finish, take your time and do some research!

Hi Steven,
Like everyone else said, Nice job ! Should be worth two hugs I reckon, after the finish is done of course, and after you have transported it to its final resting place.
Keep us posted mate.
Cheers

Nice
Hi Steve, Nice pine job and should make someone happy. Have made quite a bit of pine furniture with great success. It can be viewed at http://gallery.groov-e.com/
What are the external dimensions for the dresser, I will be building one of these later on.
Regards Mike

Its a bit hard to see from the pics .... but does the top part have those little bits of wood that run the length of the front of the shelves to stand the plates up against for display? (I'm sure there should be a comma in that sentence somewhere!)

Mike .... The dimensions 80" high..50" wide and 18 3/4 deep.
Sundance ... not sure what you mean but ths shelves have grooves routed at the back to allow plates to stand up for display.
thanks for all the positive remarks

Steven, thanks measurements. I finish most items made with an oil based stain, IE compatable with mineral turps, light or dark depending your preference and bear in mind pine will darken with age, then spray estapol satin. I have found this gives a good durable finish.
I usually put the stain on with a rag and pay attention to getting it even all over, piece of cake. Incidently pine looks good with no stain at all just spray with estapol gloss if you like shiny or with satin for a duller appearance. The timber will darken with age.
Regards Mike.
