New Krenovian cabinet
Hi. A few years ago I made a series of timber and veneer boxes ( Flickr: HandmadeBoxes' Photostream ). I got the making these down pat, so I was curious to see if the methodologies used could be transfered to making full size furniture. This is the result. Its a Krenov style cabinet (ie long legged and substantially useless) with a 70s style wavy front.
It's veneer and solid timber. Solid timber is all Aussie cedar. Veneer is figured sapele and rock maple, over plywood. I made the drawers double ended, with the alternate ends Macassar ebony. I think the sapele/maple drawers probably work better.
There are no door handles. A bit odd, but I couldnt think of anything that didnt spoil the line.
cheers
Arron

Beautiful piece!
Can't decide which drawers best suit the piece.
Something about Krenovian style furniture. A bit like Shaker -clea simple lines, airy but strong.

Sensational cabinet! Have you considered routing a small fingerhold on the bottom edge of each of the doors so it is out of sight but could provide enough purchase to open each door? I too prefer the ebony draws... I think...

Very nice cabinet. I prefer the sapele/maple drawers, but you've got the choice!
