    Ruddy,

Your nesting table design looks very elegant in comparison to my rather chunky zigzag Jarrah table, referenced in Munruben's post above, but I am wondering if that tempered glass would be strong enough to remain intact if someone were to stumble and fall onto it. Also, I realize that the nesting design precludes having a stretcher between the legs, but wonder whether the tables would be less prone to racking if there were rails connecting the back ends of the top rails, balancing the rails that connect the ends of the tables' feet.

Excuse me if I am highjacking this thread, but I might point out that the zigzag design also works well for dining tables, see https://www.woodworkforums.com/f187/z...ble-wip-50036/ .

    Hi Rocker,
Thanks for your comments. The work on your blog is benchmark craft and receiving your input is really appreciated.
My first thoughts and rough sketches did have a rail at the rear connecting the two short sides that hold the glass. Because we wanted to make the glass tops look like they were suspended we opted for the more simplistic look with just short sides.
I did have some discussions with the glass supplier as I also had some concerns about the unsupported design. Nothing guaranteed, they felt that using properly tempered glass over the short spans involved should be OK. As the glass is tempered, if it were to break, it would not create shards but is supposed to break into very small pieces.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

    Ruddy,

Good to hear that the glass would shatter into small pieces, if broken. But it would probably be wise to remove the tables if you are having a party, or if children are running around.
