Nest of tables.
This is a design that I came up with after one of my grandaughters said she wanted something different. She liked the idea of the glass being supported only on part of the sides and this is the prototype of the basic design. She helped with much of the making and did most of the domino joints. She hand sanded and applied the three coats of polyurethane satin finish. The squared off domino joints were fitted with jarrah tenons for both the structural and visual decorative effect.
The glass tops are tempered and held in with adjustable gibs.
As always, you learn after you try something new. Next time, if ever we make another I would use slightly smaller section timber and spend the extra money on something other than pine. And my head I'd be a scratchin'

Yep, I agree. Love the design & the workman(workwoman)ship
I would not be surprised if it gets copied quite a bit.
Who was it that started the Z Chairs a while back, ... maybe Zen or Wongo, I cant remember, but your tables would work very well in the same room.

Nice set, looks great.. The first thought that came to mind was Rockers work with this design for a small table. Picture of it can be seen on his blog http://rockerswoodwork.blogspot.com/ It's great idea and very strong. Well done.
Reality is no background music.

Great design and classy yes. When I saw nest of tables I thought God , they went out with bell bottom trousers and body shirts but you have done a great job. Well done

Yeh, Rocker, thats right. Thanks Lig & John, I remember the chairs but the builder got away from me. Must be starting to show my age.

Thanks for the comments. One of the reasons I have chosen the nest of tables with the gkids is that it is the sort furniture they can take with them when they eventually leave the nest. I know when I got married we had bugger all furniture and these would have come in handy.
I dont have any WIP pictures but as you can see the design is pretty simple.
Claw, admit it, you still have some bell bottoms and a body shirt in the cupboard in the hope they will come back into fashion. The problem the body is the body shape is now out of fashion. And my head I'd be a scratchin'

Ok, every thread has to have at least one dumb question. Here's yours.
What's a domino joint?
They did???
Buggah!
We had a set of cheap and nasty and oh so ugly nesting tables for years. I would have thrown them out for no other reason than they spoiled the look of the lounge room if it wasn't for the fact they were the single most used piece of furniture we had.
We finally found a very nice set that looks good as well as being useful.
Maybe I'll have a dig out my bell bottoms.
Cheers
Jim

Grandad..have a look at the Festool entries on here for some details on the Domino.
It really is an extremely easy tool to use.
