Default New shoe cupboard

When my wife said she wanted a new shoe cupboard for the entranceway to our house this design popped into my mind. I dont know if it is original or a subconscious mimic. There were all sorts of problems in the making of it. I did it as a 'darkside plus thicknesser' project. The legs were done and redone 3 times - by spokeshave - not happy with each previous attempt. The front crosspieces were done 4 times. Eventually I decided that if you do things by hand they just wont look all identical so learnt to accept them as they are. Eventually I got sick of it and broke it up and threw it on the wood pile where it sat in the rain for three days till I changed my mind again and decided to finish it. The front and sides were meant to be silky oak veneer but it took weeks to arrive and when it did the grain ran horizontally, not vertically. The front, sides and rear were eventually made out of jarrah fence palings. I split all the palings for the rear and flattened them to 5mm thick so they could be bookmatched - but didnt do it for the front because - well, not sure, perhaps I was just sick of it. The frame is recycled Tas oak, or whatever else was in my rapidly emptying woodshed that looked similar.

Doors swing on little brass pins. There are no handles - just open the doors by pressing on the extreme outside and let them swing.

After seeing the finished version my wife was very pleased with it and declared that she would now have throw out all her 'old' shoes and buy new ones. I should have left it on the woodpile.

That's on nice shoe cupboard Arron.

Your wife is right. No use putting old shoes in there. Only nice new ones for that bit of fine furniture!!!

Well done

I hope your shoes are good enough to put in that cupboard. Nice design.

I think if you want uniformity with darkside, you have to gang the pieces together, and work them as one piece.
