Odds and Sods
Some more odds and sods
1. A little lidded box in camphor laurel barely finished in white shellac. I was simply playing with this, making lots of mistakes and learning. I made the mistake of showing it to MIL and it disappeared up to Cairns with her Now she's going to show off the box and it's probably the most badly made piece yet!!!!
2. Fiddling again trying to make another little box to replace the one above. It ended up being a business card box and display. Wish I'd used better wood rather than scraps of CL and silver ash.
3. A cypress wall cupboard from a year ago, just need the shed so I can use it now.
4. Two more photo albums - LeftHS is Kwila with hinges on front and finished with UBeaut's white shellac. RightHS is Silver Ash with rebated hinges finished with Cabot's Danish Oil. The silver ash album disappeared to Cairns too
cheers

Wendy,
I especialy like the little business card box. All of my work so far has been either pine or jarrah, or a combination of the two & I think I am now ready to try some other timbers. Unfortunatly, I have 1 project I am currently working on & about three others to do before I try it.
Your work looks great as always
tickyThe fact remains, that 97% of all statistics are made up, yet 87% of the population think they are real.

You've been busy, Wendy. Some nice pieces: and a not-so-rufflyrustic look creeping in.
Can you describe the joinery used in the box in pic 1?Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

MIL box plan
OOOooooo, I'm losing the ruff touch!!! Cool!
Thank you Everyone. I try to do a little bit nearly each afternoon after work and at least one full day every weekend. I'm starting to decrease the quantity and increase the quality now that I've made myself slow down and be more patient.
The business card box is my first piece for my office, useable but decorative too.
Zenwood - The plan for the MIL box is pretty plain. Cut some corner pieces to length, route the rebate for the sides to float in, learning the hard way that you cannot route rebates so close together as the bit that's left holding in the sides will break away . The bottom is simply butted and screwed into the legs. I ended up having to screw through the sides to hold the top part together (then hid them). Then the wood wasn't thick enough for the hinge screws so I had to add a bit of extra wood to thicken the back to hold the hinge - bit of a play job, lots and lots of mistakes, but oh so good to learn from. the scribbly bits in the picture are the bits that broke.
cheers

Love it all, especially the grain in the first box and the very Australian tone of the second (Sydney Opera House/boomerangs) - I love the thought of making something to use at work! Well done

Its good stuff Wendy.
The photo albums have inspired me. I've been at a loss for what to give my brother as a wedding present. I think a photo album and a couple of large picture frames would do the trick. Should look the buisness filled with wedding photos .Specializing in O positive timber stains
