Wood? I believe, with all my heart, that if you hit me with it, it would feel quite woody.
Certainly took a good finish.
Texture/consistency: could it take some relief carving or scroll-saw cut-outs?

I'm trying to conjure up some WA icons. Whale sharks. Pitcher plants. Devonian living corals (sorry, can't recall the name).
If these things seem odd to you, biologists all over the world would pick WA from what I've nominated.
I can't imagine relief carvings of much else.

In retirement, I have the luxury of forgetting things.
I've seen the fossils and pictures of the live stromatolites (sp?) at low tide.
The dish certainly did turn out well.

RV, Let me jog your memory, Pinnacles, wave rock, Ningaloo reef where you find the best coral, whale sharks and manta rays to swim with. Then there's the wild flowers and black boys, or grass trees as we have to call them now. I could go on. I looked at the photo's of where you live and it looks just beautiful, natural and green. It's in stark contrast to our red dust and white sandy beaches, they don't call us sand gropers for nothing. You have the bears and wildcats to worry about, we have the sharks and snakes.
