    Default Panel clamps

I was searching the Web for some plans for home made panel clamps and I came across one that looked as though I use some metal "left overs" from the work metal scrap bin.

Its on the "Instructables" website. I just made a few changes to suit what I had.

Worked out well and I can clamp wood down to 12mm by changing the pressure pads. The pads on the unit at the moment go down to 20 mm.

Obviously this is one of a pair

Any chance you could provide a link to the Instructables article?

    Thanks!

Default First use of the panel clamps

Got to use the panel clamps today, albeit a trial run. SWMBO has a cabinet made by her grandfather in the early 1900s in Holland. She inherited it from her mother.

He had nailed the top down in the four corners and with timber movement over the years, it had split back into its original three panels.
It was glued together with hide glue so I have ordered some.
They work great - bit of a tap here and there and a gradual tightening and you cannot feel the joins and it's as flat as.

I will fasten the top back on with wooden "hold downs" in slots to allow movement.
I have some question on finishing but I'll post those in the finishing forum.
    Cheers

Good idea, thanks for sharing it. Did you plane a small curve in the arms like the instructable suggested or have you found they mate flat under pressure anyway?

Followed the instructions and planed a slight curve on each caul. I have about 3mm at one end with the other end closed. The cauls are 1200mm long.
