Photo of a large bookcase
Attached is my first digital photo and attachment so I hope it works ok. The bookcase was designed by my wife (is that a disclaimer or what?) and is 2.5m high and 2.3m wide. I dry assembled it in my shed and then finally assembled it in the lounge room. Made of pine...shelves are 290mm X 38mm made from gluing two 290mm X 19mm builders pine together and then gluing edging strips on the face. This reduced the cost of the timber by 50% as 290 X 19 cost $4.90 a metre and 290 x 38 was about $20 a metre. There are no nails or screws in the bookcase except to screw the back on...it is jointed and glued only. Used 3 coats of Cabots colonial baltic satin water based stain/varnish (almost 5L) at $114 a shot from Bunnies.

Ashame that so much work cannot be shared because of the image quality. Understand that it is your first digital effort. Can I suggest that you try again with out so much contrast in the room - sunlight and deep shadows. Maybe early or late in the day when the lighting is more even. If flash is available try that as well. Being digital you can be free with the number lighting variations you try, then just pick the best. Look forward to seeing your bookcase. Surely you can't be hiding the design

Bob
I will try and borrow a camera next week and take a few more detailed shots. I use the one from work but it is unavailable until next week.

Ozwinner,
Thank heaven for Photoshop! You have too much time on your hands. Though you may have saved a reshoot.

Well done Chum. Pine is very underrated hereabouts, but as you've shown you can get it to look pretty spekky!

I agree, Someone posted a pic of a fantastic entertainment system once made from pine. Looked great, but some putz (sorry if it was u) exclaimed
"Looks great, pity it's not made out of real timber"
Great job i say, the bookcase that is, not the photographyCheers,
Adam

Thanks all...still trying to sneak the digital camera from work and take some more photos...just built a queen size bed and need to take some photos of that. The reason I use pine is that the walls of the house are lined in pine and the floor is pine...hey its really cheap also if u sort through builders pine for the best stuff.Chum
