Latest project
Just finished this table for my Daughter -in-law as a present for taping David Marks Wood Works . Its a little bigger than his - 450mm square x 700 high with Tas Myrtle burl , wenge frame and Tas Myrle legs - oil and wax finish I was a bit dissappointed in the solid tas myrtle as it had some splits which only became evident when I cut the legs

Good looking table Peter. There can be both good and bad hidden in a peice of wood you look at most carefully before aquisition can't there! How many times do you get a peice of wood home you thought was perfect in the heat of choosing, only to turn it over to find a b great defect! Only issue I would have is that the wenge seems a little busy up against the burl and the colour a little in the wrong quadrant of the colour circle. I assume the burl was veneer? Your DIL must be very happy to receive such a great peice.

Looks very nice, and I am sure she will be very happy with it.
Great job.
Hopefully one day, I'll get the nerve to try something like that as well

Thanks for the comments fellas .
Jacko . Yes the burl was veneer . The wenge was used by David Marks with a madrone burl (red) and the DIL said she loved it -so that decided the colours. Any way red and black are good footy colours .

Great work Peter! Love the myrtle burl veneer - hope to do some bedside units in a similar style one day, but the skills escape me as yet. Nice work with the mitred corners.

Very nice table. The top is spectacular. I wonder if the curved legs compete with the top for attention. Maybe straight legs would make for a more unified design? Still, very beautiful. Can you give a description of how you made that top? I'd like to do something similar for a box lid.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Gooday Zenwood . I straightened the edges of the veneer by clamping the 4 pieces , 2 burl and 2 backing veneers , flush with the edges of 2 pieces of 18mm pine board and used my planer . Taped the edges of the straightened book matched veneers and glued them to 18mm MDF using cauls and clamps . The burl veneer was a bit " crinkly " and next time I will glue the burl veneer to some 3mm MDF first and then straighten it .
