    Default my first project

This coffee table was made from river red gum and under the guidance of Richard Vaughan. It was my first attempt at making anything out of wood (or anything else for that matter) so the end result was extremely rewarding and even SWMBO loved it. I designed it and the drawer was sized to fit the remotes and TV guide. It was joined with dominoes. I guess I was a bit lucky in the magnificant fiddleback grain of the wood and even more lucky in that I was given the slab free of charge.
Naturally the table now holds centre stage in the lounge.
Since I completed this last year I made two smaller tables that I posted earlier.

sanded to 400 grit many, many times. I never realised how time consuming and important the sanding process was. Once that was done six coats of feastwatson tung oil-based floor seal were applied over a few weeks and finally finished with buffing oil before taking the table home.
The first coat was applied using a brush, wiping off the excess and then subsequent coats with cloth - this was all done under the supervision of woodwork teacher Richard Vaughan.

    Congratulations larool29,

Excellent job, don't give to much credit to the timber, if the builder does a botched job, no amount of high figure grain will redeem it. So take credit and stick with Richard he's a good bloke.

    Cheers

Beautiful table. Really like the design, the curve in the legs makes it look quite light and elegant. A fitting use of some fabulous timber.
