    Default My Router Table

Finally finished. I've been building/not building this for some time. Ive been using it in a half made state for a month or so now, so it's lost it's "newish look" that you get with newly finished work.
As you can see, I didnt bulid it worrying about how aesthetically pleasing the end result would be. I was more concerned that it would be flat and accurate, and produce good routed joints, panels etc,etc...
Most of the materials are cheap stuff I had laying around (pine cabinet, and ply panels, casters, handles)
I did buy the materials for the I bought the flatest piece of 30mm MDF I could get my hands on. Two 3mm sheets of white acylic.
I contact cemented the two acrylic sheets to each sice of the MDF. I got it to 1000th Inch flat throughout the table surface (80x134cm). Let it dry and set hard for a few days before cutting out the router hole, miter slot and trimming the acrylic flush with the MDF.
I built the top so it can be removed from the cabinet if need be (its bloody heavy though). The top sits on sliding dovetail bracings (part of the cabinet frame), the est of the cabinet frame is assembled with mortise and tenon joinery.
The trim around the top is the bengkirai (very much like Teak), usually used for decking or flooring. I used this because its tough as nails, and I can get loads of it, and wanted to try it out for potential future projects.
Didnt really spend much time on finishing it. Ragged on some Teak oil throughout, and a coat of Briwax.
    Cheers. Gary.

Better than the one I have. Should serve you well - nice work.

It is good to see that you " didnt bulid it worrying about how aesthetically pleasing the end result would be " 'cos it turned out looking pretty good from this angle.

I agree with Cliff ... It looks great!

Did you design it yourself or build it from a set of plans?

I have been thinking about building one myself & your table has really given me a kick along...........

Thanks Guys. I appreciate your comments.
I drew up a rough plan on paper, and went from there. I built it over a month or two, so I had time to think about what I wanted from the table. I wanted it to carry my noisy taiwanese shop vac (its in the main compartment of the caninet) and to have the option of taking the top off if need be. The ply panels are doubled, about 45mm apart, to try dull noise from the router and vac. I've been thinking about filling the gap with something???

The Incra set-up is nice. The only gripe I have with it is the Right angle fixture (an important part for the joint making process) is junk... I've had three of these, and none of them are straight and flat. They need to be faced-off and shimmed to be fully usable. That aside, the fence is solid and accurate.
    Cheers. Gary.

    Default Underused

The standard fix for the right angle fixture is to mount a ply face to it and shim it to suit, they even supply the T track fittings to do this with the jig fittings. Putting a ply face on it also gives you the option to extend the face. I did it with mine.

BTW nice table, it would seem that mine now has a Japanese cousin.

Mate, This not so aestetically pleasing piece is better than most of my most aestetically pleasing pieces!!!!

Looks like a nice thought out table. Well done.

A pic of the vac in the main compartment with the hose connecting to my 3612c. Its connected with a vac connector from Makita. It seems to work quite well. It takes almost all the chips away. I was hoping it would, overwise I would need to build something else:eek:

    Yeah
I agree with Shannon, (not about his work) about mine being inferior to yours Underused. Another person to make me feel inferior, I don't know if my ego can stand much more of this site, you skillful buggers are probably the reason we're No.1. Greenie on the way.
    Cheers
