Thread: What do you do with your scrap timber?

Great use of what would otherwise be waste they all look pleasing to the eye and practical. Well done.

What is this scrap you speak of?
Anything too small for a pen blank I consider segmenting, then realise I don't have time so give to folks to start their fires.... Sine have commented on how nice it smells when they burn it...

I find it difficult to throw anything out, finding the time and coming up with an idea is the challenge.

Yep, no such thing a waste. Jewellery (earrings, bangles, rings, etc) , coasters, cutting boards from strips ( as you have done), book birds, (i'll post a photo later) bottle openers, pens, tiny hollow vessels, necklaces, brooches, small spoons, the list is virtually endless.

Not much besides sawdust leaves my workshop without a price tag attached. The sawdust goes to a friend for compost on his farm.

Timber ... scrap? Does not compute. I like what you have done. My scrap is just accumulating because I can't throw it away. The fireplace gest the absolutely unusable pieces in winter but otherwise the shed is bursting. Need more ideas! And more time.

This is a bit like the question "What do Scotsmen do with their old clothes?"
Answer: They wear them.

I must be Scottish then. You should see some of the rags I wear in the workshop. If the tackle ain't hanging out and it gives me reasonable cover, I wear 'em.

Scotsman here too. My old shirts get the sleeves torn off and then I bum around the house in them till they fall off me!

I don't have the power tools to maximize the wood values, such as in the cutting boards. I wish.
They are so much more visually appealing and interesting to look at and work on.

I'm so old and so lately smart that I actually do toss really raggy clothes. Partly raggy, I wear,
much to my children's embarassment:
" Dad! Jeez! You can't go out, looking like that!"
"Huh? What?"

Yeah, my only scrap is pieces with cracks all through it, pretty much all the stuff in my toy thread has come from the local timber yard's scrap bin. They are really good to me there, as long as I take a toy in every now and again to show the guy I keep getting free wood. I do buy timber and buy power tools every now and again.
