okkk, timeless timber! i understand that the peice has work needed in certain areas but i think godawful is a bit rough, i made this table with malcom harris as my lecturer and neil erasmus helped me through the design process, neil is obviously one of the best designers in australia and very well known, he liked the design and if he thought there were any major flaws he would have told me, not saying its perfect in any way but it passed by two extremely experienced instructors. ultimately it was my decision of how it was made and the final proportions etc but no one else seemed to think it was to bad!

i dont really like to use any rules when designing something, i think using your own thoughts without a ruler and sketching something then expanding out the sizes from your sketch gives a better result, obviously things need to be tweaked as sometimes when u use the same proportions on something alot larger the peice just doesnt work. the reson the right hand side is heavier then the left is because i personally think that on a more sculptural peice there should b some asymetry and a flow from heavier to lighter as long as it is done reasonably subtly. I do agree that its to heavy but i dont think its as much as wat u think. The table was also designed very quickly with not alot of prototyping or time to mess around, it had 2 b done quickly and therefore is not as refined as wat i would like but it was quite technically challenging to make with all the joints angled mortise and tenoned and evrything handshaped. Its good to get some feedback though lol btw check out my other stuff, specially my cabinet, most people like that! hahahaha but im guessing u may not!

Glad to see you've got a healthy ability to handle criticism, good or bad.

Don't ever stop designing, driftit. Some designs are winners and some continue to be a work in progress. This one of yours is a winner, as many of us have said here.

    Cheers

I hear what you're saying Timeless Timber - i think a 28 out of 30 score is a massive compliment myself, so i wouldn't be getting offended by comments like 'it's godawful' driftit, it's only an opinion

As for the table, i too think you've done a great job, if you're happy with the design you don't need to justify that to anyone imo - beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.... The world would be a dull place if we all liked the same things, we'd all be driving the same cars, living in the same shaped houses, listening to the same music and wearing the same clothes!

True most designers lack the workshop knowledge and can come out with things that just don't 'work', but imo they have their place in the industry. Look at extreme design like fashion being way over the top and concept cars etc, i see it as the same thing, you get extremities that won't ever go into production, but can inspire an idea to create a toned down version of, or just take small ideas from. Some extreme contemporary furniture design can just make me laugh at how ridiculous it is, but i may still take an idea away from it.

Your table reminds me of Tom Schneider's design a little, not really my taste, but beautifully made and i really appreciate the work that has gone into it Keep it up mate
