    Default Simple Marri/Jarrah coffe table

    Hi everyone,

I've just built this basic coffee table for my niece's wedding present. Top is from a solid Marri slab (WA redgum), and the flitch legs are jarrah - I didn't use the original flitches as they weren't suitable so shaped some from the jarrah slab. The top was originally about 85 mm thick, which I planed down with our trusty Makita electric hand plane. The legs were shaped with the plane, also.

The top is joined to the flitch legs with a large dowel, that is screwed at an angle into the top, and then pinned with tiny dowel into the legs - plus all glued. Finish is 7 coats of Tung oil flooring, first coat brushed on, the rest rubbed on.

About 3 days' work, thanks to it's simplicity!

    Cheers,

    Jill

P.S. somehow the pics ended up in wrong order, sorry!

Great table Jill. How did you go with selling the house and moving? Is it still happening?

Thanks Rod and Vernon for your replies! It was fun to do a small project that could be done in such a short time, for a change!!

Hi Alex - thanks for the feedback - nice to be on again, too! Fun little project, too - a change from a list that has gone on for years! Just worked out I will have built 70 doors for our home once I finish these last four this week! Next house will have less!

Hi Wendy - lol - like your Wendy stamp, eh!! Glad we ladies can have some woodworking fun, too!

Hi Burnsy - thanks - still waiting on the sale, but have a keen buyer lined up. Looking forward to our planned trip across the Red centre with 4WD and bush camping - some time in the next couple of months, I'd say.

    Thanks Robbie!

HI Tex and thanks - my niece loved the finished article! Phew!

Thanks Alex - I never used to like contrasting timbers, but joining WWF has changed that!

Hi Harry - funny how a simple, quick project is to a woodworker (even a novice one!) what an entree is to a hungry diner - now I'm chomping at the bit to build some more complex furniture pieces before we start our next home...and while I still have a workshop!
