    Default Something I made!

    G'day fellow splinter makers!

Well after a 12 month hiatus caused by many and varied life-changing happenings (all bad) I finally have my "shed" set up the way I want.

This the first thing I've made for ages.

    Attachment 120693
    Treated Radiata Adirondack Chair
    Front View (with apprentice posing)
    Attachment 120694
    Oblique View

    Attachment 120695
    The view from the chair.

Its a prototype for display and very comfortable. Gonna sell 'em and provide a choice of three timbers, Treated crapiata (like the prototype), Tasmanian Oak (expensive) and Huon Pine (very expensive)

I'll make them on request so I don't have dozens cluttering up the river bank

The prototype has used roughly $100 materials, so I guess a fair price would be around $200 taking into account materials, labour (around 6 hours elapsed time) and wear and tear on tools.

    Thoughts/criticism welcome!

Feels good to finally make something to completion.
If you never made a mistake, you never made anything!

Looks good and they are comfortable to sit in and they are easy to make as well.

Currently I'm making chair no 9.

    Now that looks really good.

Your cost is a little conservative - I think. Perhaps fair to the customer but I don't think you are doing yourself any favours considering [$100 for] your time and wear and tear. Blokes mowing a lawn get more than that hourly rate.

I'm not making them nor trying to sell them but you could probably anticipate selling a larger number at $200 than at $250 - 300. All I could really suggest is give it a go and see what the market will stand - try the $250 - $275 range.

I'd agree with Bob mate, about 275-300 each. They're worth it.

    Rob

    Great effort. Looks very comfy.

You could sell it for $22,200 and throw in a free ute

Tassie Oak will cost about 2.5 times as much for me to buy and Huon Pine about 4.5 times as much. So they'll be priced accordingly. Plus freight.

it looks very comfortable, but seems to be missing a beer holder and an adjustable arm for an Orgasmatron.
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Its a prototype mate, if they want a stubby holder I'll drill one in the arms. Orgasmatron? - the chairs big enough for the real thing mate.

Nice work. You will be able to cut down the production time when you get into the swing of things a bit more. Prototype always takes longer. Good luck

Thanks mate. Yeah, after I cut all the components and dressed them I made templates for them all out of 3mm MDF. By the way the prototype is made of "fencing' grade treated pine. Cheap as chips from that doyen of tree killers -Gunns - 155 x 25 rough sawn at 1.60/lineal metre. Dressed it myself to 150mm x 19mm. Used the bandsaw to cut all the components.

Nice work Sheddie. I kind of expected to see your carcass kerplonked in it with a stubbie though. Too inviting not to sit in.

Glad to see you up and making timber pieces again mate

As for price, what ever people are willing to pay it for Some will recognise the quality and be willing to pay a high price, others will argue they can buy the cheap asian import for a lot less
