Myrtle top
The myrtle top came up nice.
The front board has nice burl and a bit of fiddleback.
The second board has some figure and rain-splash.
The back board is pretty plain.
I think they work OK together.
They have been shaped and sanded to #500 and had three coats of Danish oil/estapol mix.
Just about everything is ready for assembly. I just need the extra lock and striker plates to arrive and I can finish the last few jobs.
Maybe I can get it all together next weekend.Scally

Locked up
It has taken a while but the cabinet is finally finished.
It took five attempts to get to get the three locks and them they weren't identical.
The myrtle and huon look good together.
I think I will give the top another couple of coats of finish for extra protection then it should be fine for general use.Scally

Myrtle and Huon
Thanks fellas.
I like the way these timbers look when they are finished.
I looked at the Surian cedar veneered ply panel again and it looks pretty dull compared to the Huon. It justifies the extra cost of the better pieces of timber.
My charges are modest , Alex, but they will put a nice dent in the cost of the Domino and I will enjoy seeing it each day when I go into the office.
CheersScally

Delivered and labeled
I took the tender cabinet in to the office.
Several suggestions about bolting it to the wall.
They wanted it labeled so people knew what it was. This is what I came up with.
It is a sticky transfer. The sign place were hesitant about it sticking to timber with an oil finish but so far it is Ok.
I like the Black lettering on the Myrtle.
I almost got it centered??
Now, the first thing I see when I come in the office door is my Huon panel.
That is a good start to the working day.Scally

Great result Scally. Have you considered laser engraving if the transfer won't stick?
If you get a chance to see inside the Leeton office, there used to be some nice old carved furniture in the RD's office. Part of the history of the organisation, like yours will hopefully become.

Thanks, I am happy with the result.
I ummed and r'ed about the label. Brass with black engraving would have been OK.
This seemed the least destructive and least risky.
Lazer engraving sounds good. I never thought of that. Thanks Alex. I will keep it in mind if the letters start peeling.
A few years ago I came across the plans for the original WC&IC office in Leeton. Beautiful measured drawings on the board room with furniture.
I will see if I can organise a meeting in Leeton soon!Scally

Thanks Boban.
Good to hear from you.
I have to move house in July and the benchtop that I made from your blue gum will be a big test.
CheersScally
