Once this project is completed I want to make a few things for workshop such as a shooting board, auxillary fence for the SCMS and a large cross cut sled.
Once completed i'm going to make a box out of some beautiful blackwood that I got from the show. I also got some qld walnut that I'm planning to use this summer, just not sure what it will be. But with 7 and a half weeks off work, I'm sure I'll be a very busy woodie.

fine work
Andy,
The table is just fine, the white and red colours match well.
Good luck and merry sawdust.

Hey Andy,
I've really liked following this WIP. You have certainly beaten me in the "this is my first domino/furniture project". I've been struggling for time to complete my two side tables - they are very simple, I didn't even add drawers.
Your hall table is excellent, and the drawer handle you made certainly completes it - definately much better than any purchased handle.
Your comment about not being perfectly happy with the table is also a conversation I had with my wife yesterday (no, not a conversation we had about your table!).
Rachael has taken up cake decorating, and is doing very well at it. She has had a number of orders, and was decorating a cake on Saturday for a 21st party. She said she was not totally happy with it, and pointed out a few imperfections. Until she pointed them out, I would never have seen them. The ultimate compliment was that the caterer at the 21st (who I imagine would have seen many cakes and have a list of cake contacts) placed an order for a cake!
My long and eventual point is.... I told Rachael that when we make things, naturally we only see the imperfections and things we could have done better - and will do better next time. What we often don't fully see is the wonderful outcome - we always focus on the little imperfections that others won't pick up.
This is a great effort, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the final pics. Be proud of this one. If this is your first, I can't see to see further works!
Cheers,
Nathan.

Thanks Greg
Nathan - it's very much my personality to be hard on myself. I showed the missus yesterday and she couldn't see anything wrong with it, she loved it. I think I've just been looking at it for too long and im picking at things even if there not there. There is a few things I'd do differently if I had my time again, but I'll take it as a learning curve for next time.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,
Great job on the table!
I think the inlay on the top really lifts the whole thing. Looks great!

Excellent squares arnt they !!
Ok, I put the final coat on yesterday. I'll buff it up with my swansdown mop over the weekend and then move the table inside. I'll then let it sit for 2-3 weeks before I put EEE wax on.
I'll attach the table top on the weekend and post a few pics of the buttons doing there thing, and the table with it's final coat sitting inside my house.
Thanks for the kind comments
Andy

Great work, This has been an interesting thread.

Thanks for the kind commends Gents.
I'm lucky enough to have just under 8 weeks holidays starting next Friday. So i'll have a couple of projects coming up. I think the next one will be a mitred blackwood box (with splines) to give as a present for christmas. I got a really nice piece from the show this year that iv'e been desperately wanting to use. I'll post a pic of it later with the table.
Then I got those two QLD walnut slabs, so maybe another hall table for my house or some other type of furniture?
It's hard cause I don't really need furniture for my house, so the only reason to make furniture is to give away as a present.

I attached the table top today and gave it a quick buff with the swansdown mop on the electric drill. The table is now inside (i'll post a pic when lighting at home is a bit better). In approx 3 weeks i'll bring it back into the garage and give it a coat of wax before the long drive down to Melbourne to deliver it to Mum.
Pic 1 - the drawer with the catches
Pic 2 - one of the 8 buttons installed
Pic 3 - the piece of blackwood which i'll make my next box out of.

Well done Gro. One thing I just noticed, the grain direction on the buttons. I think the grain direction is supposed to go along the button towards the slot rather than from side to side. As it is there is a weak point at the corner of the rebate. I hope I've explained this clearly enough.
The time we enjoy wasting is not wasted time.

Thanks for pointing that out. I wasn't aware of this.
I'll have a look later and see how many are like that - i'm tipping if one of them is like that, the rest will be aswell. I did make two batches so fingers crossed.
How important is it to have the grain running into the slot?
