    Default Is this woodwork?

While dumping a few gigabytes of unwanted files this morning I found this, sorry about the quality of the pic, it's all I have.

For those who don't recognise it, it's a reasonable likeness of a Careel 18 trailer sailer, which I built in the light bulb probably ten years ago, as a gift for some friends who once owned the boat.

    Spars: Turned from Matchstickus
    Hull: Pinus Clothepeggus
Skipper, Rudder and other bits: Matchstickus

Sea: No Gaps with green water colour mixed.

Bulb: one of Osram's finest domestic 60 Watters.

    But is it woodwork?

    Cheers,

    P

For sale: Careel Sailer. Fully sealed but only good for light winds and glassy seas.

    Brett,

I suppose it's no trade secret; you need two bulbs.

Break one and rescue the copper bits, this takes a bit of patience and you may have to make a tool or two, but a small riffling file will do it, get all the clay and glue gunk out.

With the other one, carefully cut the copper about 6mm above the glass and remove all above that line, I then use pliers to nibble away the glass back to the copper line. (Did I say you need two bulbs? You may need a few spares!)

When all's hunky dory, remove the last of the copper and glue, then build your thing inside before gluing the two bits back together again.

It's not too hard, but does require a certain degree of patience if you don't want to get a lot of practice sweeping up broken glass.

    Cheers,

    P

Just buy a cheap one. The glass separates from the base easily. Usually when you're trying to remove a blown one....

Bright idea, Midge. I'm sure it gave your friends a warm inner glow when you gave it to them. Watt's your current project?

Well it amp-powered me to work happily on the darkside. I think I'll generate a few ideas over the next month or two. Perhaps I'll switch to something less illuminating!

    Cheers,
