I reckon boxes are one of the mosty under-rated objects around. Everything and everyone needs a box at some stage

    Nice one

Best wishes for the arrival of baby bear...

Thanks boys - head getting bigger by the minute - ego stroked - I finished it with just wax - some cheap crap from a hardware store other than Bunnings (I am boycotting Bunnings lack of service and failure to honour the "find a cheaper price and we will beat it by ten percent" assertion - they should have said "find a cheaper price and we will ring the poeple and tell them we are price matching and they will hang up". That was after I had to explain what a thicknesser was to the bloke.) The wax was put on with steel wool and buffed with a cheap lambswool drill attachment thing from super cheap (best $5 I ever spent). The hinges match the latch - they come in packets from Mitre 10 for about $6 a pair. Strange you deviants should say that it just says touch me - everyone who sees it (as it is mysteriously on the dining table in full view inviting comment) runs their hand on the lid and the girsl do it with a little more interest and expression than most.

    Great box mate.

Hand or router cut dovetails? Either way they look OK to me.

Good luck with the young one - they can be a hand full occasionally but overall having kids is great stuff.

Don't see the problem. Looks great to me.

Looks good Bear. You've worked up a good finish on it, I can see why people like to touch it. Well done.

Man the wattle was hard and took some effort to bash it together.
I am attracted to the box you have displayed, could you describe the construction of the lid?

You have done bloody well with the box Bear!!

I gotta say Black Wattle is another of my favourite timbers but it can be a bugger to work with.
If you have never worked it before you have done Fantastically!

The lid is simple join of two bits glues down then I used my table saw to cut the lid off - whilst it was all together I ran it around the router table and smoothed it off - I did another one where I rounded off the dovetails an it looks great as well.

AND - the baby came last Friday 8lb 10oz - I am so glad I am a boy ! He already is easily soothed by the sound of power tools - I was buffing the coffee table with the rill and he just purred along in support - in the next room of course.

Congratulations, m8. Here's to busy, but joyful times ahead!

    BTW: I'm glad I'm a boy, too

Congrats on the box and the baby, Corcorbear! We were owner building when I was expecting our last two (singles - not twins, btw) - me doing all the dropsaw work, etc., and we used to joke that if the babies needing settling once born, we'd probably just be able to start up the powertools!!

    Keep up the good work,

    Jill
