Default what am I supposed to do?

This won't mean much to those outside the NRL "territory" ...

My son told me today that he is a keen Manly-Warringah fan !!

but never having lived on the Northern Beaches, I'm like most other Sydney-siders -- I'll barrack for any team but from Manly.

    how should I react?
    regards from Alberta, Canada

Back when I was young and foolish (I am now old and foolish,) I attended a Manly match, with a mate, at Brookvale oval. An inconsiderate clown (read Manly supporter) sitting directly behind us, decided that continually blowing a trumpet, directly into my ear, was acceptable behaviour. Upon his fourth attempt I drove my fist straight down the bell.
It would appear that drastic action must prevail if peace is to return to the swamp.

Support him, as he is your son.

And remember it could be worse, he could be an AFL supporter.

AFL I could handle. It just means following Melbourne rather than Sydney "news"

My real worry is that along with supporting Manly he says he just doesn't get the point of that running game played in heaven AKA Rugby

Well that does it!! He has gone too far. Unfortunately, while you may be quite fond of the fruit of your loins, the best approach from here is clearly execution. Allowing the gene pool to proliferate would be a disservice to humanity.

Or, maybe you could just constantly take the out of him.

The poor lad is obviously crying out for help. Be gentle with him. Time can be a great healer. If that doesn't work, beat him into submission. This alone will be demonstrative as to the point of The Heavenly Game.

Most people in Sydney support two teams - their local team, and whoever is playing Manly.

Pfffft. You have all the balls in your hands Ian. I'd suggest a little juggling or squeezing is in order. Are you not living in Canada for his sole benefit? At some considerable cost and inconvenience? Might be time to come back for some warmth.........even tough the so-called summer is approaching there.

I'll never forgive Bobby Fulton for the '73 Grand Final.
