Default The crazy things we do for fun, and charity.

    Gidday

In a few days time I head off to India to participate in a charity rally. 3400klm in a Tuk Tuk. For those that don't know, a Tuk Tuk is a three wheeled, two stroke, 7 hp vehicle that is commonly used throughout Asia as a taxi. They have a top speed of about 50klm/hr. These things are not designed for highway use!!!!

The event is called "The Rickshaw Run". It starts in Shillong in the north east, and ends in Cochin in the very south. We do the driving, navigation, find our own accomodation, arrange our own repairs (inevitable). We are pretty much unsupported. We have between 16 and 21 days to complete the journey. Sound crazy? Yep, it is.

There are two charities that benefit from our efforts. Cool Earth, and environmental charity that aims to save rainforests and a charity the we have nominated, SATHI. SATHI aim to help children who have been abandoned by their families, or have run away from home. Oft times these kiddies can be seen eeking out an existence on train platforms. A sad, sad life.

The reason for the post is twofold.
Firstly, I thought that some of you might like to follow our crazy adventure which will be full of danger, foolishness, laughter and peril. We have a Facebook page you can like to keep up to date with what is going on. Here is the link.

    https://web.facebook.com/keepontuktu...homepage_panel

Secondly, on that page there is a link to a Go Fund Me page that we have set up. If you can see your way clear to donate, we would deeply appreciate it, as will our beneficiaries.

Get on board, tighten your seatbelts ( we don't have such luxuries), and give your smile muscles a good hard work out. It's going to be a wild ride.

We leave next Friday, the run itself starts on the 1st of August. One of our small team of three is a professional photographer so I can guarantee there will be great photography of incredible India as well as great videography.

    Thanks in advance
    Cheers
    Bevan

    Bevan......great work.....

I will chat to you tomorrow about me kicking in some dollars for the charity but it is a small world.

My wife (also named Mel) who is also a photographer & I know Mel Sinclair very well. We go to Cradle Mountain each year in April and although Mel Sinclair missed the last couple of years, we look forward to catching up with her again in the future.

Well there you go. Yes we know Mel quite well, hence the reason she is coming along, Mel trusts us, for now. That may change in India. She is a brilliant photographer. It will be worth following the Facebook page just for the photography I reckon. There may well be opportunities to get a hold of screensavers and maybe prints, maybe, of some of the shots Mel takes.

Are you aware that Mels work is on the cover of John Grishams latest novel? Or that one of her images will soon be on a jigsaw puzzle made by a renown European puzzle maker?

    Talk in the morning.

    Gidday there

Today I leave for a journey to India. I will be participating in "The Rickshaw Run". 16 - 21 days of madness travelling 3500klm in a Tuk Tuk. Yep, a Tuk Tuk. 7HP, 2 stroke motor with a top speed of 60 klm/hr. That works out at about 4 hrs to do 175Klm a day to finish in 20 days. And that is going the short way!! There are no rules, no route, no organised accomodation and we organise our own repairs. Totally unsupported. It will be a feat to complete.

During the event our team of 3 will be posting regularly via various channels of social media. One of our team members, Mel Sinclair, is a professional photographer so there will be some great images posted. If you like a laugh then get on board. The run starts on 3 August but there will be updates posted in the interim.

So there you have it. Strap on your seatbelt and jump on board for the ride. If you can see your way clear to support our quest then the Go Fund Me link above is the best place to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Beneficiary details are within the Go Fund Me link. Other ways of helping include donating to our Klm- a- thon. Donate an amount per Klm travelled. As an example,1c per Klm will be about $35.00. Other challenges can be put forward by yourselves on our Facebook page. Get thinking people.
