    Default EF Falcon parts

Almost a year ago we bought girlchild an EF Wagon on dual fuel.
A week or so ago it backfired and blew the plastic box on top on top of the rocker cover into a million pieces.
I have not been able to locate this thing at the wreckers and Ford now tell me that the part is no longer available but I could modify it.
Not being a mechanic I have no idea what to do, stuck with a car that is in good condition, 12 years old but can't be driven because we can't get clean air to the manifold.
    Anyone have any ideas???
I have searched Ebay and google but to no avail.

    Hi Iain
On E-Bay is this EF/EL FALCON/FAIRLANE 6 CYL AIR INTAKE PIPES Item number: 280091063014

If this is what you are after then you need to modify it for LPG operation , so it does not happen again.
Shoot me a PM and I will send some photo's of the modification.

I don't know what it is called but it is a large black plastic box, fairly thin, bolted onto the rocker cover, has one large outlet to the manifold and two large inlets which are connected by hoses to the air cleaner.
The only thing I could find on the box was the engine size (4.0l).
The box somehow, I think, takes the two air intakes and creates an even flow of air into the manifold, there are curved mouldings inside what is left of the box.
The two inlets and outlet, both about 3-4" are located on the passenger side of the box.
I thought it may have been called the air box but I now think that this is where the filter is located which is at the front of the engine bay.
Unfortunately I don't have my camera handy so I can't post a piccy.
    Bloody cars.
I have also been told this is a common problem so why couldn't Ford make this thing out of metal, the ones the wreckers do get are of brittle and prone to failure too I have been informed.

This is a fairly common problem with the lpg conversions, one of my mate's XE fairmont use to do it every now and then.

The solution we came up with was to leave the hose clip slightly loose on the hose from the filter to the box so that it just blew the hose off rather than blowing the box up
    Cheers

That is the part but the bidding is still going and I need it yesterday, I paid for the other one and should have it by Wednesday.
I have gas on my Landcrusher and between the air cleaner and manifold is a metal tube with two big holes, rolled over this is a neoprene tube, like a stubby holder, when you get a backfire theoretically the neoprene stretches, lets out the excess gas and returns to normal, in reality it tears the crap out of it and I carry a spare in the glovebox.

Iain, I'm probably teaching you to suck eggs, but on my V8 Commodore VN and V8 VQ Statesman, the only time this happened is when someone (not mentioning names here) left their foot on the accelerator when starting and it would blow the air filter box to smithereens. I finished up fitting a one-way valve and that largely overcame the problem.
On my Pajero I never had this problem. My latest car, a VX Commodore with an MGA conversion I also never have the problem.

When the Landcruiser backfires its time for a tappet adjustment (and a second mortgage to pay for it ), the Falcon I am not familiar with, not a great lover of the local produce and prefer the imported cars.
As I said, bought it for daughter as a means of cheapish transport with room for all her horse gear and feed, it has been OK so far except the inside resembles our local recycling centre, and smells as bad with all the rotting takeaway leftovers.
