My thoughts on the case....you have to wonder about the credibilty of a woman who maintains she spilled the story to put the record straight for her ex...and then sells it to Channel Seven and No Idea magazine.

You know it's about time we got some jounalists in this country who had actually been somewhere, done something and had a real grasp of the language (although that last one is not so much the issue here).

The bloody stupid dog chased it and it went into the dam as an act of self preservation, and anyone or thing that went in after it is asking for trouble.

I was in Melbourne about 3 years ago when it was in the middle of a big dry (or the beginning of an even bigger one!!) and was staying with a work colleague out Donville way. We went to walk his dog in a big off-lead park (I don't remember its name) which had a large lake in the middle of it.

A woman was walking a couple of small dogs when they spotted a medium size grey roo and they went after it. The roo went straight into the lake waded out to chest height and then turned around to face the two dogs, which had jumped in after it, and proceeded to try to drown them.

The woman owner was hysterical and went in to try to save her dogs. She would grab one, chuck it on the bank then turn around and grab the other one. Meanwhile the first dog would jump straight back into the water. Second verse ..same as the first.

We were on the opposite bank of the lake as this little drama unfolded and it was about 300 meters around the shore line to where she was.

My colleague - a bit of fitness nut - decided he's better do something so he sprinted around the shore line and went to help the woman and her dogs. She was, by now, really screaming and crying and those bloody dogs would not take no for an answer, and the roo just kept on pushing them under and striking out at the woman when ever she got within range.

Anyway, my colleague arrived on the scene cautiously waded in , keeping out of the roos range, told the woman to get out and he handed her her dogs one at a time to be put on leashes.

The roo, which was by now pretty worked up, had a go at him but missed, fortunately, and then it proceeded to swim across the lake to the opposite shore where it climbed out exhausted and rested on some rocks in the shade of some trees.

I don't know how the dogs fared, - probably a few cuts and scratches - but the woman was, surprisingly, OK with just a few light scratches to her legs. That roo could have very easily disemboweled her.

However, my sympathies were with the roo. It was absolutely buggered and just sat panting on those rocks for over an hour and was still there when we left.

I had read about roos doing this sort of thing but this was the first and only time I had actually witnessed it.

My thoughts exactly Ian. I saw a TV report where it was claimed that the roo 'lured' the dog into the dam. Reminds me of the old joke - this animal is dangerous, it will defend itself if attacked.
