Thread: Question Please - Is “ Temu” as a reparable supplier?

I'm assuming you mean "reputable"

I keep seeing woodworking bits and bobs popping up on various sites that get my interest

I don't like the pushy "download our app" carry on tho

I get the feeling they are 2nd party sellers for amazon etc

I've bought a few things from them without any problems.
I stick to the website, not the app.

in short its a chinese knock off supplier.


It is pumping good at a massive loss (a good portion of their income comes from selling your data) for both sign ups and trying to claw market share from amazon and advertising revenue.





it's not a scam per say, but your kind of supporting a crappy business practice (probably some slave labour thrown in there) by buying from them. the parent company was also kicked off the google store for basically stealing data from your phone.

I was suspicious of the website as I too sometimes receive unsolicited advertisements from them.

I've been buying stuff from them for a while now with no problems at all. They are very quick to deliver - must have a warehouse with decent stock in Australia, as their delivery time is way too quick for it to be from overseas. Some of their cheaper products are "you get what you pay for" but the majority of the things I have bought from them are reasonable to good quality, and definitely cheaper than you would pay elsewhere. I'll be using them again.
I've never bothered with their app - I buy only from the Temu Australia website - but I don't use apps to buy from any other supplier either and don't intend to.
It doesn't bother me at all that their products come from China - most other suppliers are selling Chinese made products as well, with a bigger mark-up on it. Hell, my lathe, bandsaw, table saw, mitre saw, belt/disc sander, dust extractor fan & motor, pedestal drill and probably many other things in my shed are ALL made in China.

I’ve used Temu a bit. Reliable seller.
Similar to Banggood and Ali Express.

I use eBay, AliExpress and occasionally Alibaba and Amazon, in that preferred order.

I prefer to pay via PayPal as it gives me an extra layer of protection, but Amazon doesn't accept PayPal so it goes to the bottom of the list.

Temu does accept PayPal, so I would consider using it if I couldn't get what I wanted from my preferred online platforms, although there are some known downsides with Temu, like getting bombarded with emails.

As for using the Chinese platforms, it is a hard call to decide to only go with with the platforms provided by the US cyber-brats and not the less known Chinese ones!

I get way more emails from Australian suppliers I have dealt with, such as CWS Store, Carbatec, Timbecon etc. Unless I want to keep getting emails from a supplier, I always unsubscribe from their mailing lists and this seems to work for Temu as well as most others. I don't use Paypal, but I also don't give suppliers any details of my normal bank account - I run a separate account that is normally empty unless I have made a purchase - I transfer enough money to cover any internet purchases into this account when needed - so far I've never had problem (touch wood).

I don’t get emails from Temu. Maybe I unsubscribed in which case they honoured it.

I do get bombarded with emails from Banggood and Ali Express. The Ali Express ones arrive 2 or 3 times a day but they are very targeted towards my interests so I do like to read them. I’ve even picked up a new hobby/interest through their emails (Arduino). The Banggood ones are dreadful shouty things offering discounts on something though it’s never clear what and how to get them.

I don't recall getting any Temu emails other than regarding orders. If I have had any, they'd have to a few per cent of what I get from Timbecon.

Similar here. For online purchases I use a credit card which is the only account I have with one bank, so that if it somehow gets hacked it isn't a door into my account at another bank.

I have bought half a dozen things from Temu.

Product descriptions and explanations are sometimes a little eccentric - obviously English is not their copywriters first language. But their copy seems to be honest and factual. Their prices are incredible and it includes postage.

My last order was for a set of bathroom scales with a glass plate. Looks quite stylish and works very well. Price $14.97 landed.

My experience with order was as follows:

• placed online order at 10 pm,
• got immediate email saying order received,
• early next morning got email - order packed,
• email - order details sent to shipper,
• email - goods collected by shipper,
• email - goods sent to airport,
• next morning - email - goods on plane,
• email - goods processed by Australian Customs,
• email - plane landed in Melbourne,
• email - goods transferred to Australia Post.
• It took less than 48 hours from my initial order til the stuff arrived in Melbourne.
• Then the emails stopped.
• Four days later Australia Post delivered the package in Hobart, their tracker was not updated.
• The outside packaging was flimsy and was badly damaged in transit, but the contents were fine.

A designer shop nearby has similar looking glass bathroom scales for $109, a little more than the $15 that I paid.

I have not received any advertising material from Temu.

When I have asked Temu questions via email, I have received an answer within 20-30 minutes. Always seem eager and helpful, although there is a language awareness.

A very good strategy, which I also use for overseas transactions, partly to reduce transfer/currency exchange fees, but also as an extra level of security!
