I used to play a lot of snooker. Snooker was THE game in Hong Kong in the early 80s. I did play in a competition. Got knocked out in the quarter finals. Didn’t play much since I got here 20 years ago but hey once you’ve done it you will never forget.

I've played snooker heaps of times. Back in the early 70's I used to frequent the many snooker parlours that there were in Sydney in those days.

I'm really really crap at it but if you are really desperate I'll give you a game.

I played comp for years after I retired until my eyes just deteriated too much, Try your local clubs RSL, Bowling, etc if they have 1 or 2 full size tables then they proberly have a snooker club or ring around to the clubs and ask if they have a snooker club/comp happerning.

Snooker I love it. When I lived in Sydney the Anzac Club at Cammeray had a special billiard room with 9 tables and you would have to put your name on the board for a game. The North Sydney Football Club had 5. When I moved to Jindabyne the Bowling Club had one but it didn't last long. Then I moved to Cooma and the house I bought needed additions so for swmbo a new kitchen and dining room and for me a 8 by 6 meter snooker room. I got a 100 year old table from the local club spent 4 months restoring it and now swmbo and I play every afternoon.

btw we are only B grade my highest break is only 42

Seems to have died out a bit here although the bigger RSL's still have full size tables.

Same here. All those pool halls down George street are gone nowadays.

Cool. He was a bit of a legend. It's a pity he never won a world championship. Although I used to enjoy watching him kick butt in 'Pot Black'.

When you play a bit on those full size 'football field' tables, you get pretty good playing for schooners on 6X3 pub sized tables.

I only played when the billiards tables were all taken.

i like playing snooker...i have never played it on a full size table though cos i'm to young to get into pubs and clubs. my biggest break is around 30, so i'm not very good at it. i tend to give my dad ( my usual opponent ) a lot of points thru 'fouls'.

the pool tables covered in junk but i think i will have to clear it off soon (even though the junk isnt mine)cos now that i've read this. i want a game

I think the last time I played snooker was about 35-40 years ago. We had a commercial parlour with about a dozen pool tables, one billiard table (no pockets), and one snooker table. All full size, with equal-size balls for each type (not the coin-operated abominations). The proprietor was a retired machine tool builder, and appreciated the precision of the games. I loved snooker for the challenge. I'd guess the term "snookered" comes from having a number ball and a red ball in poor locations with respect to each other for the shot. Or might be the other way around.

Son, if it is not a full size table then it is not REAL snooker.

And I agree 30 pt break is pretty ordinary.

I used to play a lot at the Anzac Club in Cammeray and at Norths Leagues as well. Used to play in NZ when I lived in Wellington at the Working Mens club and at an old snooker parlour off Courtenay Place (dodgy joint). Used to play in the Monday night comp at Norths Leagues every week for a few years, but never did any good. Never got to be much good at it, although it was fabulous practice for playing pool on pub tables, and I won a fair bit of money playing pool - the small tables are easy after you do a lot of practice on the big tables. Haven't played for years now though, and with eyesight going downhill I'd probably struggle.

I'd suggest trying your local large Leagues club or rissole. A lot of them still have tables and run comps and inter-club comps as well.

The RACV club in town has a number of table, used to play there, and there was a small pool hall in Ringwood that I misspent a little bit of time in.

Was and still are a carp player though, couldnt hit the side of a barn with a cue.

You need a move up to Queensland Stirlo, They let any age into my local RSL club.and Bowls club.
I use to play snooker when I was younger but the stupid balls kept falling into those nets at the sides and ends of the table but I fixed up that problem, stuffed them with toilet paper.Never had any more problem after that, the balls kept on the table.
