There's a new substance out now called oil. I don't know where you'd get some though.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

...and WD40 kills insects...especially if you set it alight as you spray it.

but seriously, just a drop of light oil at the top of each hinge should do the job.

I thought I was the only one who uses wd40 on flies (they don't squeak afterwards)

A short spray from the cooking oil can on each hinge will do the job. Move door back and forth to encourage the oil to penetrate. Wipe off excess oil with paper towel.

My 70 year old sister uses hair spray on spiders.
They don't squeak, and "set" very quickly making removal very easy.
But for door hinges, I'd go with WD40 or Cooking Spray......even Traditional Wax works a treat.

How many times do you want to stop the hinges from squeaking?

    Seriously...

A bit of very light oil (US brand is "3 in 1" or sewing machine oil) mixed with powder graphite. Remove th pin from the hinge and coat it with the mixture, also use a cotton swab to put some of the mixture into the hole where the pin was located. Re-install the pin and work the door a bit. Wipe off any graphite that appears on the outside of the hinge.

You'll apply the lubrication once every twenty years or so.
