In response to Midge's challenge in another thread, where would I recommend people visit?

Take a ferry trip on Sydney Harbour

Go diving on the Great Barrier Reef
    Mt. Lamington National Park
    Powerhouse museum in Sydney
    Ride a bike round Tassie
Drive from Adelaide to Alice Springs to get an idea of the scale of Australia
    Daintree, Cooktown & Cape York
Drive from Perth to Albany, stopping at lots of places along the way.
Dive with the whale sharks at Esperance WA
Walk all round Melbourne, and visit restaurants in Richmond etc.

The coastline around Seaforth north of Mackay is beautiful. 1 in 3 sloping rainforest heading down into the sea and coral.

Great Ocean Road, then through Mt Gambier, up to Penola and Coonawarra, then on to Nuriootpa and North to the Flinders Ranges. Excellent road trip.

If you want excitement, Sydney tunnels in the rush hour.

The Lodge & Kirribilli House - a pleasant day throwing peanuts at the monkey.

    (Peanut recipe:

    • 1 750ml coke bottle (glass)
    • 350ml petroleum distillate
    • strips of linen rag...)
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

I reckon the list of "Big Things" that BM posted would be a really good tour of Oz. I've seen a few of them. My favourites

The Big Ram at Wagin - it's a seriously impressive merino.
The Big Banana at Carnarvon - notable for the fact that it's not very big at all, really. It's less of a Big Banana, more of a Slightly Larger Than Average Banana.
The Big Oyster at Taree - very odd. The thing that strikes you is - why??
The Big Orange at Harvey - no longer. Disappeared a few years back but it was good while it lasted.
The Mother Farcquar - now we're talking big. The MF is on a scale of bigness that rivals the biggest things you could possibly imagine. When it comes to big, the Mother Farcquar is It, mate.
