The only problem now is:
Parole after 6 months for good behaviour.
Weekend leave.
Conjugal visits.
The crap from the do gooders never ends.
Shed a little tear and all is yours, my mum hated me, dad beat me, I was never popular at school so it's all your fault.
Unfortunately these mongrels view compassion as a weakness to be exploited.
Finally I shall come out of my shell, I was in the prison system for 20 years, not in uniform but involved in prosecutions etc, up until the late 80's I would put away up to 10 a week who didn't want to comply with parole, cba or whatever conditions, then the social workers got hold of it and all was OK, they wanted me to be compassionate, for christs sake I was the devils advocate watching each and every one of this dickheads, one foot out of line and bang, back in they went.
The system didn't like it, why, because it worked, they just lost the plot and I got out in 93, had a gutfull of poncy social workers whose idea of great conversation was working out in the office who was gay or straight.
Rant off.

As a postscript to my earlier post regarding police et al, I am sure most of you will be happy to know that I just got a $78 fine for not carrying my licence (less than 24 hours after ragging on the feds) - teach me to have a pussy opinion. The karma police are at work!!

I still find it hard to get my head round the idea that you have to carry your drivers licence with you. I'm forever swapping it from bag to bag (women's clothes tend to be short on pockets ) and leaving it behind. And what if I'm out driving in the company of a gentleman and don't have a bag at all ( my nan reckons you never need to carry money if you're travelling with a gentleman )! Or what if I'm not the one that's driving and my driver becomes incapacitated!

UK system is ( or at least was when I left ) that you get so many days ( 5 from memory ) to front up to the local police station with your licence. much more civilized ( but given the snow they are having at the moment I think civilization is sometimes overrated before SilentC has a go at me )

It's not the ticket that gets up my nose, it's more that when I walked out of the house after I picked up my licence and put it back down . I dont carry a wallet, so my licence and key card etc are all free wheeling and I only grab them when I need them. For some idiot reason I put the bugger back down before I left. The cop gave me a spiel about enforcing this law because they come across car accidents where they can't ID the bodies, I had to explain to him I wasn't cursing him just my stupid self

The drivers licence may be helpful in helping to identify a body but its hardly an essential

here's a few scenarios to consider

The driver is dead and has ID and his passengers ( who aren't required to carry ID ) are also dead - there are still dead bodies to identify.

A pedestrians ( doesn't have to carry ID) is the victim of a hit and run - you've got a dead body to identify.

The car goes up in smoke and the plastic ID has melted - you've got a dead body to identify.

A house goes up in smoke with the occupants in bed - you've got a dead body to identify.

The driver of the car has someone else's wallet and their drivers licence - you've just identified the WRONG person.

There are two dead women in the car and only one handbag on the floor - you've got a dead body to identify.

Assuming the car isn't nicked then its reasonable to assume that either the registered owner of the car is the dead body or the registered owner of the car knows who the dead body is.

And if the car is nicked then do we care who the dead body is anyway other than trying to find someone to save the state paying for the funeral?

And if either or all have false teeth, you can't even use dental records, which just goes to show how important your choice of toothpaste is.

Even if they are carrying a licence they need to be identified.

However. A person with a licence on them saves hours and possibly even days of investigation into the identity of the person. Meaning the persons
family can be notified soon after the fact. One of the first questions always asked to me by next of kin is, "why did it take so long to tell us" even if it's within an hour or two.

A person with someone elses licence on them is unlikely to be mis-identified, due to the picture on them.

If we get it wrong, it's going to be a bad day at the office, therefore, we make sure of the ID before delivering messages.

As to the rest of the 'what ifs' you posted, it's a good thing most people (90%+) carry some ID on them.

I fail to see the difference between breaking the law in not carrying a licence whilst driving or breaking the law for any other road traffic offence. Why should say not carrying a licence be any different.

Licences are only issued after you prove that you know the road laws which includes carrying the licence whilst driving.

What is so difficult with this.

There is a very simple and effective solution to riots like Redfern and the recent ones, and I can not think of the name of the place.

But I do not know why the politicians and the police have not thought of it before.

This solution would make everyone happy, the do-gooders,, the snivel Libbers, as Lawsy called them, everyone, even the thugs themselves.

Simple solutions are often missed and obviously this one has been missed also.
