You started so after you sir!

Only tools I have made, I made at tech some 20yrs ago, I started because I'm looking for inspiration!

Here is something i made more recently that could be deemed a tool

Some amazing stuff there

When I was making my ukulele, I needed a rosette cutter for the soundboard.
I made this one:

Well I am a bit behind that last showing but here is some of my efforts.

First go at a saw. Teeth were a problem but on its next sharpen Ill get it better. Still cuts well.

I have some panel clamps I am making at the moment. Not finished yet, but when I get a bit of time, there is not much left to do.

All of the components are made, but I still have a bit of machining to do to put them together.

No time really - I made most of those tools when I was in charge of 65 academics and researchers at a university science department, chair of an Australian University course Accreditation Panel and President of an international Chemistry Committee. During one of those years I was on a plane on average once every 4 weeks. It was not a question of finding the time but making the time, I guess I could have gone to therapy instead but that would probably have been more expensive although perhaps work would have paid for it. I was blocking out whole weekends to get these projects done and got very testy if a planned weekend was impinged on by other events.

I'd like to think I was very efficient at making these tool but I am not really that efficient although I did a fair bit of planning for most of these tools before starting on these - ie rolling the ideas around while walking the dog or at the endless meetings I had to attend at work. My alternative at meetings was to doze off and I found designing tools help me stay far more alert about what was going on at meetings than I otherwise would have.'

The other thing is we don't go out very much (I have done way more travel than I ever felt the need for), and I watch very little TV. We bought a video projector a few years ago for us to watch movies and a bit of sport. I have watched 1/2 a movie and a couple of AFL and snippets of some cricket matches. About the only thing I watched more than an hour of is some nights of the tour de France. SWMBO watches TV and movies on the projector but now she watches them on her iPad. SWMBO has a horse which means she is away for long stints meaning I'm on my own with the dog (now dogs).

Funny thing is I am 4 weeks away from retirement but am decidedly relaxed about getting started on the zillions of other projects rolling around in my head and on SWMBO's todo list for me.

My SWMBO just got a clydieX, seems I need to get her shoed (the horse) and send her on her way(the swmbo),
No on second thoughts that would leave ME with the 4 kids, might have to sell the horse before she gets wise

I did most of my parenting in my teens and 20's with 4 much younger brothers, mum was running the show, and a Dad who was unavailable due to illness. Perhaps my reaction to that was to only have one child, who left home about 10 years ago and by luck or good management has stayed away and is now happily married although is not afraid to ask for and I am happy to help with DIY tasks. So it really has been me and shed and the dog, and for a while no dog, then back to one dog, and as of last week now two border collie dogs!

The bigger dog is 15 months old and is a real softie but when she was the "only child" she needed lots of attention and getting bored quickly she would come into the shed and hand me an item, to hide or tug or play with. She stayed in the shed or I closed her out of the shed and then she would search for the hidden item. This would go on all day if I let it. I couldn't leave her in the shed because she liked to take on the lawnmower, chainsaw, compressor, welding and grinding sparks etc. Now we also have the 9 week old pup which is a surprisingly calm but also very confident fluff ball and she already has the bigger one fully sorted. Our plan has sort of worked because pup seems to keep the older one fully occupied - well at least when she is free because pup is still spending some in a crate separated from the other.
Hopefully they will be my exercise regime and shed buddies for the next few years.
