The blade arrived today, so I sharpened it a popped it right in!! OK I had to take a slight woof off the bottom of the wedge with some sandpaper, then it worked!

Darned thing works like a charm! Feels fantastic too (which is what the shape was all about after all!)

The best I could do in terms of realistic photos is terrible, but I'll post it anyway, its round a knot in a bit of camphor laurel, grain in every direction, and while the scan doesn't show it, in fact it looks like the old firewood it is, the piece is perfectly polished... must be beginner's luck!

It's a bit touchy when belting with the mallet: a good dong on the front will bring the blade down just a bit too far, while a tap does nothing. Fortunately it's "tap-tunable" from behind, so the wedge must be pretty close to right as well.

I LOVE it when a plan comes together!

Is that meant to be 'workshop' or 'worship' Major? Either one fits well.

The term 'grammar nazi' was invented to make people, who don't know their grammar, feel OK about being uneducated.

Only if you roll it with a shaving...

I don't tap the nose of the plane, just the blade gently. I know it can spread the steel on the blade, but it sure beats beating up the plane at both ends.

Besides, last one needs whacking with a deadblow to pull the blade out. Not tapping, full on whacks with the angry persuader to get the blade to shift out. Can't be bothered doing anything about it right now though.

Although it does have a steel lever cap in it's very near future. Gotta add some weight to the thing somehow.

Well done, I hope you get great mileage from it.
You can never have enough planes, that is why Mr Stanley invented the 1/2s
