Default home made table saw questions

Hey guys, I'm about to start work on a home made router table, roughly 800mm by 450mm and i am thinking about using a hand held circular saw in it on another plate to give me a table saw and i was wondering if anybody else has done this or has any suggestions about how to do it. I believe you can get a triton work center that will let you do this but to me it seems crazy to pay for something like that when my router table will have a solid fence along with T and Miter track on it which i don't think the triton work center has. I was also wondering if someone could tell me how to attach a circular saw to the triton work center as i would like to use a similar method on my table (i'm assuming there is wiggle room to let you square the blade up). Making up specialty brackets would not be a problem, my father has access to all the required machinery and knows how to use them and regularly comes home with parts to make and fix a whole manner of things. I don't need to be able to tilt the blade as i will mostly be using it for re sawing stock. I'm hoping i can get this to work as i'm short on both money and space.

    thanks for your help guys

Sorry if I sound blunt, but my suggestion is if you have to ask how to do this then you probably shouldn't be doing it. The Triton work centre is quite a bit more than an inverted circular saw, especially where safety is concerned. Why don't you look up Triton on-line. You will also get an idea how the saw is held in the WC.

Here's one way... provided you can make sense of my meagre diagramming skills.

If your table top is only MDF or similar, I'd recommend either using a different system than hold-down buttons or use bolts down thru the top of the table instead of screws. After all, they have to support the entire weight of the saw in operation!

(ie. I wouldn't trust 4 piddly screws into the table. The stops and cams should be fine being screwed, though.)

Default home made table saws - Books and Hector Acaveda

    Hello,

Regarding home made table saws - the following books are worth reading - just google the title

Making and modifying machines - Taunton Press

40 Power tools you can make

And the best home made table saw that I've seen on the internet is the one built by Hector Acaveda - link below

    Hector Acevedo's homemade table saw

Hector Acaveda was a member of this forum and posted some notes about home made table saws in this thread

Thanks for the ideas, using cams will be perfect for what i'm doing, I made some a few months ago for a home made compound bow (don't worry folks i only shoot at a range) so it shouldn't be an issue to make up a few more. As for securing it, I was planning on using 1/4 inch bolts and a 3mm aluminium reinforcing plate on the back of the MDF so it won't be going anywhere but the cam idea will give me the flexibility i wanted.

thanks again for the help guys
