what is this tool?
HI
Have attached a picture of a steel tool, looks handmade, in my shed during clean up. Could have been my dads ror a previous owner here.
Do you know what it si? I would be grateful to you for solving the mystery

Is it sharpened anywhere? The handles suggest a drawing motion.

Why I said a wire gauge thingo......or straightener......is that I found one too..when we took up this place years ago.
There is a thread here...What Tool Is This..that showed one and said what it was.
I'll try and find it.

Yes Neil, could be wire spacer as this farm is old and has lots of fencing. Also found a fencing strainer too but it doesnt look so old. Thanks

its a saw setting tool,i used one for years to set the teeth on saw blades ,the different size slots are for different thickness blades ,you have to use a T gauge on the side of the blade to get the set all the same as you bend the teeth over. takes a bit of practice but you get the hang of it after a while.

It looks like a blacksmiths twisting tool to me. But I haven't sharpened many saws. I do play around with a forge once in a while.

BlueGum 30 is spot on. I have seen the Saw gauge being used in a saw doctor's workshop many, many years ago when I worked for a WA company called Australian Lumber Co.
