Back in 2009 I posted information and some pics of my rendering of a Format Style tablesaw. Around the same time I was approached by a fellow woodworker from Germany who had already built a tablesaw of his own.
He was so much interested in my design that I slowly started producing detailed drawings which he used to build an extremely fine replica of my machine. He also helped to correct the inevitable mistakes that creep unnoticed in such a large project. In the meantime. I had designed an innovative method to raise the blade vertically instead of the usual basculating system. This worked extremely well and considerably simplified the installation of a riving knife.
In essence, my present saw, still going strong after 20 years, acquired the status of prototype. André Wagner’s build represents the latest edition and includes all the improvements in between.
We then published some videos in YouTube and the encouraging comments lead us to finally create a website to provide additional information and a place to download plans at a very reasonable cost. You’re welcome to visit www.aw-thinkbold.com where you will also find links to the YT videos, photos, contact information and additional tidbits of interest.
The plans are supplied as a Manual which has 81 pages of which 38 are text with step by step instructions, 43 are dimensioned drawings of all components of the machine and a Photos file with 232 pics with comments showing different parts in detail.
Here is a photo of the finished saw so you can appreciate the quality of the design and construction. This machine replicates as many features as possible of a Format Saw within the possibilities of a shop-built equivalent.
We welcome your questions and supply written support to interested parties.
