I don't know how anyone could possibly think I had leanings to the right.

I think the moderators do a great job. This would have to be one of the most fun, entertaining and informative BB going.

As an occasional poster (but avid reader) I've had a few posts deleted when a whole thread was removed. It usually doesn't worry me but I do miss the "greenie" I got for one of my unusually witty posts when the thread was deleted

I have only had a couple of posts modified and clearly they were written when I had a bee in my hat about non woodworking issues. I was hot under the collar when I wrote those remarks.

In hindsight I can see they could have offended innocent people or possibly got me into strife.

My modified posts still clearly conveyed my messages.

I haven't seen any evidence of moderation based on politics but I have observed the moderators showing bias against racism, stupidity, religious based hatred and other senseless comments.

Keep up the good work moderators.

    Default Yes, with sme explanation

I know that they are biased. Never had a post deleted or censored and it would not bother me overly much if I do in the future. What I would like is some explanation given should I transgress inthe opinion of one or more of the mods. Will I get that explanation every time? Probably not as I am realistic enough to know that the mods has limited time and have every right to use that limited time here to satisfy their own interests.
Every single member of this BB has a bias one way or the other. We are all a product of our environment and experiences. Human nature being what it is means that every action, thought or impulse is driven by those experiences and opinions. It is impossible to be a functioning human being and be free of bias. I have no doubt that every moderator here has a bias to greater or lesser degree on any subject that could conceivably fall under the umbrella of woodworking, and rightly so in my opinion.
The way I see it is this. I choose to participate in this BB to a small degree and I see the mods as the umpires and Neil as the owner of this particular bat and ball. I have to play under the scrutiny of the umpires and they have every right to make a ruling on how I play with the bat and/or ball.
If I don't like it, I have 3 choices. I can either modify the way I contribute, keep urinating into bigger and bigger winds I can find, or go elsewhere. Option one allows me to continue learning on this forum.
Option two can only end up badly for me and ruin it for others, ultimately I dare say I will go the way of some others who would/could not play well with others.
I suspect that those who allege bias and cry censorship are just upset that they have come across a person who holds and expresses a different opinion to them. Bound to happen in life and all progress in life depends on the unreasonable man. Waste time bashing you head against the unreasonable mans brick wall and you get nowhere. Acknowledge their point of view, avoid eye contact and back away slowly, avoiding any sudden moves....
Option three would be a lot less wasteful, frustrating, detrimental and much quicker than option two.

for one has always cut and slashed equally as long as i've posted but lately there seems to have crept in some favourtism with some of the other mods
BUT they are the mods chosen by neil and so be there decision ,
I am sure that if they get too out of hand then the axe may swing there way as well

    ..
I guess that that some can't understand how people can change when they are asked to moderate a forum , espically when there attitude changes so much and they reform from someone who bucks the system and is one of the biggest shi* stirrers to someone who becomes a goodie two shoes almost overnight and forget what they have posted previously or who they have upset or why or how .
It comes back to the old adage give anyone a set of keys , a Hat or a gun and they think they are invincible .
The mods here do a fair job the forum has so many posts daily that neil needs as many mods as he has just to keep the , crap and spam removed and they do a great job , 24 hours a day and they don't get paid for it .
So yes they are biased but they do keep a great forum up and running and you as members have the right to say so unlike a lot of other forums.
Check out the other wood forums and you will find very few that you can post a PM to the owner with a complaint and get a reply.

BTW how many of you who are complaining about the mods have approched Neil and asked if he required your assistance as a mod

Hard to believe I know, but all the mods moderate each others posts too, yep even Neil and get moderated.

Im still a big tihs stirrer, I just do it in different ways now. Obviously I havent lost the touch.

I also figure Neil chose me to do this job for all the things you state, owwhh, and because I look good in foil..

I have considered offering my services. But I reckon as I get moderated way more than most it would really be a case of putting the lunatic in charge of the asylum.

I'm really a good boy, I just have bad tendancies.

At first, after the major upscaling of mods, things were a bit hairy, seemed a few of the new ones had to be seen to be moderating by and Neil, otherwise they weren't doing the job they were askes, this meant they may have gone over the top a bit. Since then things have settled down and all is well. I guess that means the choices Neil made were the right ones, we all have to learn a new job.

Oh God, a serious post, I'm gonna have to snap out of this.

I voted no. Compared to other forums, woodworking or otherwise, this forum is fair. We can hijack a thread, throw personal comments, make a joke, post interesting things on Epay, debate most subjects and occasionally impart knowledge on a woodworking matter. Try that at other places.

As long as you respect the rules posted, you can discuss to your hearts content.

Speaking for myself only, if someone thinks I am being unfair I am willing to consider what they have to say (in a PM). That has happened a few times already. Understand though that sometimes we are not at liberty to discuss why we edit as it would require us to provide private information about someone else.

    A fictional example:

Member (A) sends a nasty and threatening PM to another member (B) then makes subtle reference to it in public posts, which to others seem innocuous enough but are done to needle (B). This results in (B) replying harshly in a public post. This goes on for a bit and eventually another PM goes from A to B and the mods are brought into it.

Mods consider the whole situation and ban (A) - but only after a full three or more warnings plus infractions are given (none of which are advertised to the forum in general).

Suddenly there is uproar and the mods are playing favourites, obviously the ban of (A) has been immediate and the result of a single post and this is unfair because the posts of (B) are there for all to see. Trouble is, if you want to play the part of jury, you need to have all the facts to do it.

Mods do the best we can with the information available. Are we perfect? No, of course not, mistakes are made. In the same way any of you would make mistakes if you took on the role yourself.

So, back to the first paragraph, if you think something is unfair then say so privately to the mod concerned, we can only guarantee we will not fix things we don't know about.

As for bias, I guess so, everyone is biased to some degree, but intentionally editing someone else's point of view or perspective is not done (that I know of) unless what has been written is against the rules. If it were to happen, I can pretty much guarantee a brawl between the mods and admins in the back rooms.
