What did he and his troops have at their disposal that the Germans didn't and was critical to the defeat of the Germans??

It was to do with winter and the freezing conditions, but it was not winter clothing.

I thought it was antifreeze and/or lube oil that would not freeze.

Is it because the engines were so badly made, pistons and bores not matching up every well, so that the freezing conditions still allowed the engines to work whereas the German engines being well made froze up over night.

I asked my 88 year old Italian Uncle what were the major changes he had seen in his lifetime and he said the number of over weight people, the quality of modern engine lubricants and the length or even complete absence of women's skirts.

Far out ... Very knowledgeable peoples. Regarding the engines ... After Zukov drove the Japanese out, he insisted on diesel engines for all military vehicles in his command.

The T34 was an awesome machine tho barely presentable on parade.
