Plan for pedal car
Right - picture this - a pedal car made out of timber - some steel bits for the steering maybe and wheels - but timber...mmmm
Can anyone help ?
Maybe a plan for the chassis and steering and the rest I can b..sh.t my way through....:eek:Love the Bare

Sounds like a Morgan Sports car. All laminated wooden chassis - I'm not sure that a run-of-the-mil bit of timber would stand up what a kid can dish out.
Most of the web stuff is about the soap-box racer level - a plank with 4 wheels.

I would sugest a steel chassis, nothing heavy, just weight and size to strewngth would make it stronger, then a body out of ply. build a series of ribs from the chassis, up to the hight you want the car, and shaped the way you want the body, then cover with a thin flexible ply. I have seen one in a magazine somewhere, not sure where though.
As for steering and axles, I would go to your local toy shop and look at those, even better, have a look into your local tip or Op shop, they could have an old plastic one with a broken body, canibalise this for you car..I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Mitre 10 had a book out some years ago that had various plans etc. One of these was for a pedal racing car which was essentially built of wood but with metal steering & pedal components. I have a copy & will PM you with details in a day or so.

I've got a book at home that definitely has some plans, British, from the early 70's I think. I know at least of them uses the frame and running gear of a commercial pedal car. As stated before, you may be able to get hold of a used one (with broken plastic body) pretty easily. I'll get the details for you tonight.

thanks heaps all - I will probably go with the recycling of the skeleton of an old one and make a "woody" version for junior bear.

I don't have a plan, but I do have a wood pedal car kit that you can maybe get ideas from. It includes all metal chassis.

Hi I retired 6 years ago was a sheetmetal worker. Have turned to wood & have a wood lathe & all necessery tools to build what ever. Is there anyone who can supply the plans to build a car & trailer. Australiasion Toy-Maker 2005/2006 page 81 { Poppy D123 Pedal Sports Car } & { D122 Car Trailer } Or something similar would be appreciated.
