New OF 2200 Router in CMS
Hi everyone,
I have been having a bit of a fun day with the OF 2200, mostly in table mounted in the CMS. Just messing around rat this stage and seeing what improvements Festool have implemented in the latest incarnation of their CMS Router Module. I will go into things a bit later, but here are some images in case you are interested.
I have been a very excited boy today I can tell you.

Bloody, Bloody, that solves one of my few complaints with 1400 Module!
I assume that these will be on display at the Sydney Wood Working Show?

What I really need is a Jointer/Planer module for the CMS?

These things look and work well in a nice shop environment like yours. But how about getting an independent review from someone who lives nearby and could put it through its paces, free. Someone like err, um, ME for example. Yeah, I guess I could volunteer for such an onerous task , if you insist

I agree - although I used the 1400 module as long as there has been a 1400, changing bits was as much fun as every other router table you have to do it under the table with - not much fun.
But this is great.
The technique not for changing bits with the OF2200 in the CMS is:- From the front of the table, unlock router column lock.
- Raise the router via above table crank.
- From behind the table reach under the tale and press the ratchet rocker.
- While holding that, place wrench on collet (above table) and remove.
Initially I found the whole router table rig with router installed was moving across the floor with the force wrenching open the collet. I am not sure if it is the new collet design, but I think I was unnecessarily overtightening it. Now I don't wrench it so hard when inserting the router bit, and I don't have to wrench so hard to remove it and the table stays put no problem. I have been testing with large bits and running hardwood through in single passes to ensure there is no bit slip. So far my less aggressive wrenching technique with this new collet is proving itself okay with no noticeable negative effects like slipping or loosening of the bit after use.
One suggestion I would make to anyone thinking of getting an OF2200/CMS set-up is to get slightly longer 19mm open ended spanner than the one supplied with the OF2200. It might be an advantage keeping you knuckles a bit further off the table when wrenching. So far so good and all knuckle skin intact, but might invest in another spanner to keep it that way.
This new module fits the OF2200, OF1400 and OF1010 routers, but only the OF2200 enables bit changing from above the table because of the increased plunge travel pushing the collet 10mm+ beyond the router base plate. I have not tried this CMS module with the OF1400 as yet, tomorrow.

Simple, I went down the CMS route because my shed is space challenged, I have the four units TS55 QF1400 Jigsaw and Belt sander. And they are great with out question.
But I have now arrived at the point were I need a Jointer/Thicknesser.
I guess it would need to be a dedicated module like the Sander.
How it works well thats were the Festool Design Genius comes into play
How about a two sided module that is driven by one motor, one side the jointer, flip it over and you have a thicknesser.
Then all Festool need is a drill press on par with the Kapex and they would have the work shop covered.
