I got a C12
My first Festool, looking for a Cordless drill, a good one this time, sick of going through GMC gear ...
Looking at the new 18V Li-ION Makita, looked nice on paper, said to myself I should really check out the festool range, people just keep on raving about them.
Lucky I did, even if it's only 12V I really love the little extras.
The makita is a nice gear but is no where as neat looking and nicely finished.
You'll probably be hearing more from me and my C12
Cheers
Nic

I think Panasonic have started producing brushless models, but they wouldn't have the extra chucks the C12 has.

Congratulations Nic. I know how you feel, my first Festool some years back was the CDD12 - Set version (the predecessor to the C12). I never looked back.
I tell a lie. I have glanced left and right one or twice since that fateful CDD-day and today, but were disappointed on every count.
Out of interest, what size batteries did you choose?- 1.3Ah NiCd,
- 2.4 Ah NiCd,
- or 3.0 Ah NiMH

The ability to use the offset chuck -- and the right angle -- both would seem to be hugely valuable.
Nice buy

Yup the extra pieces are so interesting and very handy in tight spots! I use the TDK 12 with MH batteries.
I would have choosen the TDK 15,4 but this one isn't available in a set with MH batteries. So If I have to screw some heavy bolts I use my not so cordless power drill on a low setting.

C12 with Chuckies is great
I have a C12 and use it constantly. In general, it's an excellent drill, but the chucks make the drill. When I got the C12, I questioned how much I'd use the right-angle and offset chuck. The very next day, I used both of them to get at a tight spot.
One trick I use pretty often is to use the standard FastFix chuck with a drill bit plus the CentroTec chuck with a screw bit. It allows you to quickly pre-drill a hole, quickly change the chucks, and screw in the screw with minimal effort. It's great for production work where you place parts in a jig, screw, and drill repeatedly.
A month or so ago, I bought the Depth Stop Chuck for some drywall, primarily in tight spots. The chuck was supposed to supplant my Senco colleted screw gun. But I found that overall it was faster and easier to use than the Senco screw gun. At the end of the day, I tossed the Senco gun back in it's case and stored it away in my garage. I haven't used it since.
Here's a review of the Depth Stop Chuck on the FOG forum: http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=331.0
Regards,
Dan.

Carpenter, If you thought my Technical Review was interesting, you should see how I'm incorporating the innards from a C12 in my expanding table construction. It takes a lot of faith in the components to bank a $15,000 table on this drill.

Dan ,youre right. I bought a brushless panasonic drill last year. They've been out a while here (Japan) . They're a nice piece of kit Panasonic batteries are also well known for being the best.
Ive heard (not 100% sure) that panasonic (National) provides the batteries for the festool drill.
