Connecting Festool dust extractors to Makita Drop saws
While selling Festool, I meet a large number of people who run the TS55, CT26 and use a Makita drop saw for framing and a Kapex for fixing.
Though the 36mm and 50mm Festool hoses both fit onto the Makita Drop saw, the bulk of customers tend to run with the 27mm hose.
I have been testing a range of commercially available adaptors, as well as reading through threads, both here and overseas, and it seems the solution below is both easy to use and cost effective.
By using a piece of oil suction hose (I bought some from an industrial supplier and cut to length), the 27mm hose can easily be attached to the Makita. This hose is designed to handle static, so shouldn't be an issue there. The hose clamp is only used so the "Adaptor" doesn't get lost or fall off in transport.
The 27mm hose seems to sit in place quite well. may benefit form some customisation.
I am putting a few of these in the hands of customers, free of charge for feedback. If you are interested in trying one, come and see me at Total Tools in Mitcham.
Only work there 5 days a week, so may be an idea to send a PM to make sure I don't miss you.

This has been discussed in the Dust forum a few times but just i case folks have missed it, the plumbing section of hardware stores stock thick rubber plumbing reducers/adapaters that include stainless steel pipe clamps.
Like these http://www.bunnings.com.au/deks-indu...oiner_p4730489
The beauty of these is that they cover a wide range of sizes and will easily mould themselves or can be clamped down onto and around oval or odd shaped power tool dust ports.
They are not expensive so I keep a few of each sizes on hand to help connect odd size pipes and hoses.

Thanks Bob,
I'll add some of these to the test range. Eventually hope to be able to come up with a converstion chart for adapting from tool to extractor or extractor to tool, depending on what is needed.

I have a Makita/Martex mitre saw and Festool Midi dust extractor. I went to Godfrey's and got an adapter. A couple of turns of duct tape is the only modifications I have made.

Just a heads up about vacuum cleaner adapters with hard steps in them like the one in the picture below as they will restrict air flow goes.

Adapters with tapered transitions will perform a little better and lets face it with wood work dust every bit of additional extraction helps.
