    Default Domino query

    Hey there

Having recently purchased a Domino DF500Q i have happily been playing with it, trying on scrap timber all sorts of joints and am very happy, so when joining two pieces of timber side by side it marries up perfectly, very happy, however when joining end to side like a T joint, it so far has not married up perfectly there always seems to be about 1mm step, no matter what i did.

For the life of me I can not understand why it is perfect one way but not the other, the timber is the same thickness ect and square, so i can see no reason for it, I have cut the slots slowly and concentrated, i do realise 1mm is sandable but when i do not have to sand one way yet I do another, any help would be appreciatted.

How are you referencing the Domino, are you using the pins/tabs or are you using the reticle and a pencil mark? Are both your tests using the same referencing method?

EDIT: And is the discrepancy up and down, or side to side?

A stab in the dark is the cutting depth is being affected by work surface.

Sometimes when you set the cutting depth the domino machine extends slightly below the workpiece. When you do your cuts either always have the workpiece protruding from the work bench or all on the work bench, the depth will always be the same.

Another way of saying what Cruzi is saying is... whenever joining timber which is less than 20mm in thickness, check the base of the Domino machine is not resting on the workbench, causing the fench to not sit all the way down on the workpiece.

And thankyou for your assistance, I believe it may have to do with what cruzi said, I tried it a few times had varying success, however I believ that your solutions will sort the problem.

    Thanks again, onwards and upwards.
